Angie looked around The Comeback and sighed. Around this time she and Krystal would be having a drink and a good laugh. It was times like this she missed her. But she figured her being away was a good thing, maybe Krystal was trying to get right. Whatever it was, she missed her.

Angie was sitting down having a drink. RC of course. After Cass told her and Jesse she wanted to find her real parents nothing happened. She told them but Angie acted out. She told her no and walked away. That was the wrong thing to say and she knew that when she trailed up the stairs and locked herself in the room. Over the course of weeks she and Cass barely spoke two words to each other. That was if they saw each other. Majority of the time Angie was gone by the time she woke up and left for school. Now it was time for it to stop. She needed to set things straight with her daughter once and for all.

Since Ari was now at the age where meeting new people was a funny thing. She reluctantly allowed Jesse to take her to the station. Let her meet the officers and see her daddy work. Jesse promised her he wouldn’t do anything crazy with their daughter in his presence and Angie held him to that. But just to be sure she put somebody on watch.

Angie took her phone off the table and looked at the time. She looked out the window and sighed. “Where is that girl?” she mumbled putting phone back down and picking up her glass.

“You know I can get you something small to snack on until she get’s here.” James said taking a seat in front of her. “Maybe she got tied up with one of her teachers.” he defended.
“I guess. I’m just… I’m nervous.” She said taking a deep breath and holding her hands up. They were shaking like a leaf.
“Stop being so nervous. It’ll be fine. She’ll come in, you’ll both nip this in the bud and be happy again.”
“What if I can’t?”
“What you mean?”
“What if we find her parents and they… They want her or… I… I don’t know I’m thinking silly thoughts.” Angie looked away.
“I see it this way, there is nothing they can do or say. You raised her, you made her the woman she is today. Not them. If it wasn’t for you where would she have been?” James asked honestly.
“Probably…”
“Right. So let them come in but let them take over. You make sure whoever the people are know you are the reason she is alive. You are the reason they are looking at her. Marveling over how beautiful she has gotten.”
Angie looked at James and smiled. “You’re right.”
“I know I am. I’m a bartender I know my stuff.” he joked touching her hand.
Angie started laughing and nodded. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now would you like something to snack on. It’s on the house.”
“How about some French fries.”
“French fries coming right up.” James said as he got up and excused himself from the table.

Angie thought about what he said and smiled. He was right she raised Cass. She found her and had it not been for her. Lord forbid she may have gotten into the wrong hands.

Cass arrived at the Comeback probably 15 minutes after the scheduled time. But it wasn’t her fault. Her professor kept her over because she made a mistake on one of her papers and he wanted to stay and fix it. She was ticked that he stopped her for one mistake but one mistake can lead to one big bad grade. After she got it done she left and headed straight to her car.

While she was walking through the parking lot she sighed. She hoped this was a way of an apology. Something. Because not talking to her mother was killing her. The fact they were so close was killing her faster. Taking a deep breath before she walked in she saw her mother and walked over. She stood in front of the table and pulled out her chair.

“I’m sorry I’m late. I had to finish up my paper.” Cass said as Angie shook her head. Meaning she didn’t have to explain, that she understood. She wished her mother understood other things. Cass smiled sadly and took a seat in front of her. “I… I uh… Have you ordered?”

Angie looked up to Cass and smiled. It wasn’t the big one but one that showed she was happy her daughter arrived. For a minute there she thought she stood her up. Angie wouldn’t have blamed her anyway. When Cass tried to justify her lateness Angie shook her head, letting her know it was alright. “I’ve ordered fries but as far as anything serious. No.” Angie said as she picked up the menu. She looked over the rim of it and sighed. She laid it down and reached for Cass hands.

“Cassandra… I didn’t call you here just to eat. I also called you here because I… I want to apologize for the way I have been acting. Apologize for ignoring you and not hearing you out.” Angie said truthfully. “When you said it I… I felt like you were trying to maybe get away from me and Jesse. I wasn’t thinking, I was afraid and I was angry for no reason. For that I am sorry.”

Angie let go of Cass hands. “If this is what you want to do I am beside you 100%. That is if you want me there… I understand if you don’t want me to help because of the way I have been acting. But I do want to… Really I do.” She looked down at the papers in her lap and sighed. “I uh…” Angie picked up the envelope and slid it across this clean table. “These are files from your adoption process. Everything and everybody we had to go through to get you. Now I’m… This is going to be hard because you were fo…”

She stopped and collected her. “It’s going to be hard but with Jesse's help, we might get a lot done. Cover a lot fo grounds.I am willing to dig deep just to give you what you want. Need.”

Cass avoided her mother’s stare until she reached across and took her hands. The menu under their hands she looked up at her. She looked into her mother’s eyes and smiled. “Ma I understand how you get when stuff like this happens.” she said as her mother let her hands go. Angie said she was by her side and that was pretty much all she wanted and needed to hear. To be honest had she and mother not talked before the beginning of the next week. She was going to shut the search down and apologize. Finding her real parents weren’t worth it, if it made the person she loved so much mad.

She was about to tell her mother she wanted her help when she reached her something. She opened it and removed her birth certificate, shot records, all of it. She then looked up at her mother and smiled sadly. Cass slid the papers back in the envelope and went over to her mother’s side. Pulling her into a hug.

“Mommy thank you!” she cried onto her shoulder. “You don’t know how much this means to me.” Cass exclaimed as she pulled away and looked at her. “Thank you… So much.”

Angie pulled away from the hug and caressed her daughter’s cheek. “Thank you.” Angie said. “You have given me so much joy and I want to thank you for doing that. Now I know I may sound crazy but I… I’m a little emotional right now so I know you can understand.” she teased.

“Now can stop fighting because I miss my sweet girl. I hate not talking to you for a long period of time. Then you right under my roof, it drives me insane.” Angie said as Cass started laughing.

Angie took the envelope and slide it back under her purse. “Don’t want them to get dirty. So my dear when do you want to start this search. When are we going to call your father.” Angie hinted knowing her ex too darn well. The man was crazy about Cass and would do anything to change her mind. Because she knew him so well she was going to talk to him. Tell him how much it means to Cassie and how much it will help her.

“Unless you have already talked to your father.”

“Fight over.” Cass laughed as she moved back to her seat in front of her mother. Angie asked about her father and she looked away like a kid. “No I haven’t talked to him yet. I’m afraid of what he might say. Plus daddy is crazy when it comes to stuff like this. You know that as much as I do.”

Cass dropped her and looked at Angie over hooded lids. “So I was wondering if maybe you could talk to him for me. You know kind of soften the blow. He’s crazy about me but he only listens to you when this kind of stuff happens. Such a dad.” she said with a sigh.

“If you call him I promise to be a good girl and cook you some breakfast. Whatever you want.” Cass coaxed wondering if her mother was going to go for the bribe or what. Looking at Angie she couldn’t tell. She could read her mother like a book but for some reason she couldn’t. At least not this time anyway.

Angie looked at Cass’s puppy dog eyes and sighed. Those darn eyes always got her. Sometimes got Cass out of trouble. “You want to cook for me! Oh no!” Angie said shaking her head and covering her mouth pretending to gag. “No honey leave the cooking to… I’ll do it for free. No need to risk people’s health.” she said seriously. Her daughter couldn’t cook to save her life. Just like Frankie. They couldn’t even boil rice, let alone making bacon and scrambling eggs.

“I’ll call him when we get home. So don’t worry… Don’t go near my stove got that!” Angie warned playfully but meaning it. Cass started laughing and hit mother’s hands like she was joking. “No Cassandra Patrice Foster I mean it. Don’t go anywhere near my stove.” she said much more serious this time.

Cass looked at her and laughing. “What’s so funny over here?” James asked taking a seat next to Angie.

“My child wants to cook for me.” Angie said carefully.
“Awe that’s so sweet.”
“No! No, no… My child cooks like her brother.”
“Oh no! No ma’am! That is anything but sweet.” James teased. He tasted Frankie’s cooking one day and it was not anything he would try again. He only tried it because of a bet between he and Angie. “Now that we have that disaster out the way, what can I get you two to eat?”
“I would like to have the half rack of ribs with steak fries.”
“What kind of barbecue sauce?”
“Honey.” Angie handed him the menu and looked to Cass who was still mulling her decision. “So how is everything going with Jordan?”
“Everything is going good. We’re finally getting closer.”
“Closer?” Angie asked looking at him lopsided.
He gave her an embarrassed looked. “Closer.” he whispered.
“Oh! Wow… That is good. I am so happy for you two. I know after the death of Evan it was kind of hard for her to start trusting again. Well you two have come a long way.”
“Yes we have and I am glad I met her. And Tess. She is just a little bundle of fun. She wants to do everything now.”
“You have to tell Jordan I said hey and tell her we have to get together for lunch one day. Catch up.” Angie said with a smile.
“I will do that.”

Cass was hurt by what her mother said. But only for a little while. Her mother was right she couldn’t cook to save her life or anybody else’s. She knew her mother was very serious when she called out her whole name. It wasn’t often she said it like that. “Ok ma. I won’t go anywhere near your stove.” Cass said. “when you are home.” she mumbled as James came up and stopped her mother from saying anything. Cass then realized she hadn’t figured out what she was going to eat.

“What would you like Angela. Jr?”
“I would like… The premium grilled chicken sandwich deluxe.” she said handing him her menu.
“Would you like fries, onion rings or shack potatoes?”
“Shack potatoes.” she said with a smile.
“She’s like you Angie.” James said as Angie looked at him, as well as Cass. “She isn’t picky about what she eats.” he said. “You are going to be one of my favorite costumers.”
“Well thank you. I might need to come here more often. Your nicer than some of those others at BJ’s.”
“Yea well I like to make friends not chase them away. Anyway I am going to go put your orders in. While I’m at it, I’ll get your drinks. What are you having?”
“Strawberry soda.”
“Coming right up.” he said picking up Angie’s glass and walking away.
“Wow he’s nice.” she said with a smile. “So who is Jordan?”

“Jordan would be his girlfriend. Remember, I was telling you about a woman being abused by her husband. And how her husband burst his way into Dixie’s door… Well let’s just say fate took over and brought them together. When we were getting him ready for surgery she stopped by and sparks began to fly.” she said as Cass smiled.

Angie smiled as well. “James and Jordan have been together every since and I don’t see anything coming in between them. You know after her husband died, Jordan was there for her. Even while in the hospital. Her daughter Tess loves him and I say everything works out.”

She looked at Cass again. “So want to talk about somebody that goes by the name Reggie Montgomery? You two have been going out a lot lately. How is that going?” She asked seeing Cass blush and look away. “I understand if you don’t want to talk about it. Just wondering.”

Cass smiled at what her mother just told her. Basically it was like Jordan and James fell in love the minute they saw each other. She thought it was cute and it made her wonder. Made her wonder if she would ever have that moment. One look and you’ve fallen for someone. What Cassandra Patricia Foster didn’t know was it happened already.

She took a sip of her drink when her mother asked about Reggie. Her mother was not the type to play around the bush when things like this happened. She was very straightforward. But then again, she did tell her mother the minute somebody came snooping around she would be the first to know. Cass felt her cheeks burning and knew she couldn’t hide it. “Actually mommy nothing is happening. We are just hanging out. Getting to know each other a little better. Finally gotten over that crazy issue about me putting words in his mouth.” she chuckled.

“Like I said last year. If something is happening between us. Sparks began to fly, you’ll be the first to know... As of now nothing is going on."
