Angie was in her office, picking up here and there. It was her day off but she came in to get some stuff put away. Files she no longer needed at the moment were placed in the file cabinet. Patient files were boxed and taken downstairs. Sitting on the couch in her corner she heard somebody knock on the door. “Come in.” she called never looking up.

“Dr. Hubbard I come to get those boxes.” An orderly by the name of Johnny said coming in with a dolly.
Angie looked up and smiled. “Ok…” she said standing. “Those in that corner, those go down to the room. They are already in order so you have nothing to worry about… What else… The two boxes on my desk go Joe.”
“Ok is that it or will you need me later on.” he said nicely putting the boxes on the dolly.
“At the moment I am not sure but I will call you if need be.”
“Ok… oh before I go, you have a package at the front desk. Said they need you to sign off on it.” He finished up and walked out.
Angie nodded as she returned behind her desk. Who would be sending her anything, all her journals arrived the day before. “I’ll get it later.” she said to herself as she continued to look through junk. Just to finish up everything, took her at least two maybe two and half hours. “I will not let this stuff pile up anymore.” she said as she pushed the last box to the side. Angie just sat down in her chair when somebody knocked on the door. She knew it wasn’t Johnny because she hadn’t called him. “Yes?”

“Hey there.” A man said closing the door.
Angie looked up and flinched. “Mr. Young. What do I owe the pleasure?” she asked turning around in her seat and moving up to her desk.
“I… Well we are having a meeting tomorrow. You know make some changes to the hospital before the closing of the year. I wanted to make sure you knew about it, your attendance is mandatory.”
“Ok uh… Is there anything I need to know before coming in?” she asked. They never called meetings like this unless it was very important. Never came to her in person unless it was important.
“Nope. The meeting starts at 11:30 so please be there on time.”
“Will do.” Angie got up and shook his hand. “Also, sorry for the mess, just doing a little cleaning.”
“Completely understandable.” he said shaking her hand. “See you tomorrow Mrs. Hubbard.”
“You too Mr. Young.” Angie said politely as he walked out and closed the door.

Angie looked at the spot he was just standing in. What on earth was this meeting about? She wondered if it had something to do with the resident that snuck into the medicine closet and got their hands on some powerful stuff. Then it could be about the donation a patient made because they saved her life. Or could it be just something they want to change. Whatever it was Angie couldn't wait to find out.

Jesse went to the hospital to check on his wife. He didn’t understand why she went in on her day off. They both could have had the house alone. He stepped up to the front desk. “Hey Myra is Angie still here?”

“Hey there Chief.” she said standing up with some files. “Yes she is still back there. Locked in that darn office doing god knows what on her day off.” she chuckled coming around and meeting him.
“She said she had to clean up or something.”
“Your wife just don’t know how to sit still. Anyway a package came for her and I was going to take it back but I can’t. Needs her signature before I allow it.”
“I’ll sign it for her.”
“You know that is illegal.”
“You know I am the Chief of police.” he pointed.
“Point taken.” She said going back around and grabbing the paper for him to sign. “Just put her initials here and sign down at the bottom.”
Jesse did that and handed it back. Myra kicked a big box from behind her desk and sighed. “This belongs to her?” he asked.
“Yes it does.. I was hoping she would come up here so I could find out what it was.”
“Probably nothing but her journals.” He said as picked up the box and got it straight in his arms. “Thank you Myra.”
“No problem Chief. Oh tell that buddy of yours I said he needs to stop by and see.”
“I will surely let Thaddeus know.” he nodded before he walked off. Jesse went up to Angie’s office and knocked on the door. When she opened it he had the box up. Hiding his face. “Excuse me.. Are you Dr. Hubbard?” he asked as she giggled. Jesse lowered the box and smiled. “Hey Dr. Sexy. Hope you don’t mind but I signed for you.”

Jesse walked in and put the box on her desk. He then turned and pulled her to him by the waist. "Greet me." he said running his hands up and donw her back. Jesse pulled Angie closer and closer, taking her lips when she was nearer.

"So have you completed anything today?"

Angie was now putting up fresh scrubs in her closet when somebody knocked on the door. She almost told them to open it but she then remembered she locked it. She moved from the closet and went to open it. “Yes?” she asked giggling when she saw him. She saw his hands and smelled his cologne. That’s what gave it away. “Hey Chief Sexy… No I don’t mind. Come in.” she held the door opened for him and closed it behind him when he entered.

She was so happy to see her man. She wanted to jump in his arms the moment she saw it was him. Jesse pulled her close and she blushed. The kiss was amazing, to much for words. When they pulled away he asked her something but it took a while for it to process.

“Oh! Yes I have, I was going to leave right after this. Just had to hang up a few more things.” She said still in his arms and between his legs as he sat on her desk. “So what did you do today?”

“What I did today.. Hmm after you left I went back to sleep. When I woke up Cass and Ari were gone, so I cleaned up. Pretty much nothing! Because my wife insisted on coming in to clean up. Seriously Angie come home, we need some time alone.”

Jesse got up and went behind her. Wrapped his arms around her waist. “You and me. Me and you, bubbles, champagne. What do you say?” he kissed her neck and sighed.

“I promise you won’t regret it.”

“You interrupted me!” Angie shrieked moving away to finish. When he began to tell her what he did she chuckled. “Jesse you know I never have time to do this… I know, I know. I never have time to do you… I mean I never have time with you either. But Jesse you weren’t even suppose to be off today. You did that on your own.” Angie finished up and went back behind her desk.

Jesse wrapped his arms around her and she sighed. “What do I say… Hmmmm…” Angie thought about it. “I say why not. I want my husband to myself.” she said as whispered in her ear.

“Oh I know I won’t regret it.” She kissed his cheek and pulled out of his arms. “Let me see what’s in the box and then we can leave.”

Angie grabbed some scissors from her draw and pulled it along the tape. She pulled the box open and uncovered the contents. “What is this?” she asked herself taking a stethoscope out the box, along with some books. She looked through the books and shrugged her shoulder. She didn’t know what to make of everything. Maybe it was pertaining to the meeting tomorrow.

“Come on let’s go. I’ll find out what this is about tomorrow.”

Rolling his eyes when she went to the box, Jesse sighed. He was ready to go! Lucky for Jesse the eager beaver she didn’t go into inspection mode. “Good let’s go!” Jesse said taking her hand and pulling her from behind her desk.

“I can’t wait to get you home.” he whispered into her ear as he snatched her keys off the desk and her purse off the couch. Handing her the purse, he pulled her out the door before she had a chance to protest. He looked around and made sure nobody was coming before he pulled her away completely.

“We don’t talk to anybody. We just go!” he said quickly.

They made it outside without anybody stopping them along the way. Jesse walked her to her car and helped her in. “I’ll see you at home baby.” he leaned into the car and took her lips. He missed those lips. He pulled away because it was starting to become too much. “We have to wait for that.” he said before running off and going to his truck. He hopped in and followed behind Angie.

The very next day Angie was at the hospital bright and early. She walked into the building with a glow about her. She slipped her keys in her purse and stepped up to the nurses station. “Good morning Myra!” she said in a chipper tone.

“You’re pretty happy today. What’s the occasion?”
“Oh nothing. Just regular old happy me. Any calls?”
“I just got in myself. But Tina didn’t leave any messages.” Myra handed Angie some files. “But she did leave these forms.”
Angie set her purse on the counter and looked them over. “What are these for?” she asked looking up wary.
“Beats me. Maybe it has something to do with that meeting. Speaking of which the halls been talking.”
“What have they been saying?” Angie asked again as she put the file down. Leaning in to hear what she had to say.
“Well they are looking for new management. They want you all opinions on the candidates.”
“Are you serious? I have to pick another boss to kick my a** every chance they get? Not too long ago I had David busting my chops. Now I have to do it again.”
“From the looks of it yep. Say they have some pretty tough cookies running for the position.”
“Oh boy.” Angie sighed. She picked up the folder. “Guess I better get use to it. Ugh!” she rolled her eyes and picked up her purse. “Well let me go get some work done. Don’t want the new Chief pain in the butt to catch me off the clock. See ya later.”
“Bye girl.” Myra said as she grinned sneakily.

Angie went to her office and sat down. Who was coming in now? She wondered as she looked out the window. She hoped it wasn’t anybody that would be a pain in her side. Because if that was the case she was going to another hospital. She was shocked she stayed for this long under David. But her passion for helping over came her hate for that monster.

Angie worked and worked until it was time for the meeting. Her patients had be given to another doctor on the clock. Which she found weird because all doctors were suppose to be in the meeting. Shrugging it off she walked into the conference room on the top floor. When she walked in she only saw the ethics committee and Joe. “I… Did…”

“Dr. Hubbard please come in.” Mr. Young said gesturing to the seat near Joe. Angie took a deep breath and went to take a seat. She was a nervous wreck. Why did she feel like something was about happen. For one no other doctor was there but her and Joe and two they all held her file.

“I… I thought this was a staff meeting.” Angie chimed in hating the silence.
“Dr. Hubbard as you know the year is coming to a close and we are all about out with the old and in with the new.” Mrs. Thompson started.
Angie froze as the thought of them firing her came to mind. Oh my god what did I do now? She asked herself. Joe looked at her as if she had nothing to worry about. Molly just said out with the old and in with the new. That spoke letting go.
“Listen if this is about---”
“Mrs. Hubbard… We have talked and we have come to a conclusions. We thought about what the hospital needed. Thought about what our patients needed. As well as the staff.” Another member named, William, jumped in. He was older but he looked younger than he really was.
Angie not had tears rolling down her cheeks. They were about to let her go. They called her Mrs. Hubbard. What had she done!? “Can I speak before you…”
“Angela.” David whispered. Angie looked his way and he shook his head. He already knew what she was thinking. Nodding, she shook her leg instead.
“Mrs. Hubbard we are promoting you to Chief Of Staff for Pine Valley Hospital.” Mr. Young said as they members began to clap.

Anybody sitting in that room would have thought Angie saw a ghost. She looked at them all and saw them smiling. “I…I…Wait your… I thought you were going to fire me or something.” she said stopping her leg and becoming much more serious.

“Why on earth would you think that?” Molly asked.
“Because… I… Well… I mean I came in and I was the only doctor here and Myra told me you all needed the staffs opinion on a new chief. I just assumed you were…”
“Mrs. Hubbard you are the best. You have been a great asset to the hospital since you returned in 2008. You have treated the staff with respect and frankly that is hard to find. It is hard to find somebody who can find time to help others and do their work as well. Ange--- Is it okay that I call you Angela?” Molly now asked.
“Uh… yea… Sure.”
“Angela you would make a great mentor. You have saved many lives and you have showed that no matter what the situation is you can pull through. And come out on top.”
She was stunned and it showed. Coming to her feet she began to pace the conference room. “But what about that whole big ordeal with my son and Mrs. Martin?”
“Angie the board reviewed all of that and they see now that it was no big deal. As you said you saved them. You didn’t kill them.”
“But I… Wait… You all are serious about this? I mean you are really giving the go, to run a hospital. You are giving me power to run this place.”
“Yes we are.” Paul Young stood up and walked over to her. “Angie you have showed great power and stamina. You had a baby and you came back with no problem. You have been knocked down numerous of times and you have returned like nothing happened. You are passionate about your job and you care deeply about your patients. You care deeply about the people that work with you. Around you.”

Angie was literally stunned speechless. For one this was new to her. Two she never thought she would be running the place. And she just… This was so unexpected. “I… I don’t know what to say.” she finally said looking to her mentor, Joe.
He smiled and got up from his seat. He walked over to her and took her hands. “Angie you deserve it. You’ve worked hard for it and I don’t know anybody else better for the job.”
“You did this?” she asked quietly.
“They asked and I suggested. They were thinking the same thing. Angie this is your time to show what you are made of. Show off those skills. Show the world what you learned.” Joe coached.
Angie nodded and looked down. “What if I can’t handle it? What if it becomes a problem when it come to my family?”
Joe excused them and took Angie out into the hall. “Listen to me Angie. I will be here. I may not be the chief any longer but I am still a doctor and I will be here. Just a call away. You know that.”
“I do and I trust you will be there but… I… Joe this is a lot to process. I mean I thought I was going to have to pick somebody else and then I thought I was going to get fired.” Angie said softly.
“You need time, I understand. Take all the time you need. Call Jesse and talk to him.” Joe suggested.
Angie smiled. “Thank you Joe but I think… I know what I chose.” she said squeezing his hands. “Ok.” Angie took a minute to collect herself.

After which they went back into the room. Angie was now more confident than she ever been. She felt like running up a mountain. The members looked at her and she nodded. They took their seats and she stayed on her feet. “I’ve thought about what you said and I know what I am going to do.”
“And what might that be?” Molly asked with a big smile.
“I Angela Marie Baxter Hubbard………………………”

Jesse received a call from Myra letting him know that Angie was with the board members. He knew what was going on but he wanted to know what his wife chose. Jesse arrived at the station and he and Myra went to the Angie’s office to set up.

“How much longer do you think it’ll be?” Jesse asked as somebody knocked on the door. He opened it and saw Cass and Ari. “Come in.”

“Not sure. But I don’t think it should take all day. Those crazy people love to eat. Make sure nothing comes in between their lunch time.” She joked.
Jesse started laughing.

“What do you think she said?” Myra asked putting a congratulation balloon on the desk and some around the room.
“With Angie there is no telling. But we’ll see.” Jesse said as he heard Ari squeal. Going over he relieved Cass and took his daughter. “Hey Mini Angie. You excited like daddy.” he asked poking her stomach. Ari started laughing.

“I bet you are.”

Getting up from the couch she walked to her mother’s bookcase. Admiring all her degree’s and what not’s. Angie had come along way. From just being a regular doctor to an infectious disease specialist to the chief of staff. This was a big opportunity for her. She was always catering to those above her and it was about time she became one of them. It was about time her mother showed them she wasn’t just some doctor who took crap and walked away. Now the family would have two chiefs. How often did that come around? Not very often she thought. As she looked around the room she sighed, this was only missing one thing… Frankie. He would have loved to been there. But Cass would tell the story when he returned, make him believe he was sitting in the room when it happened.

“Ms. Myra how did she take it when you told her about it?” Cass asked talking to the older woman for the first time since she walked into the office.
“Honey call me Myra… And I didn’t tell her. I lied and told her that they were getting ready to put in new management. Told her she had to chose.”
Cass nodded. “Nice! She believed you?”
“Oh yea honey. You should have seen her face when I told her. Almost blew a gasket.” Myra was tickled pink when she thought about it.
Cass laughed with her, she could really see her mother standing there in awe by the lie.

Tad hugged Cass and Myra and shook hands with Jesse. He looked at Ari and quickly took over. “Hey you! You missed me. Well guess what I’ve missed you. Yes I have.” he said holding her up in the air.

“So where is the woman of the hour? Shouldn’t she be getting ready to call you all and talk about the good news.” He said. Tad knew because of his dad. Joe told him what they had in mind and Tad was all for it. Of course it wasn’t his decision but he would have picked her before anybody else.

After getting the last of her paperwork finished, Dixie locked up her office and after checking in on the twins who were sound asleep in the daycare clearly not wanting to be disturbed, headed over to Angie's office. The buzz and the rumblings about her being up for the Chief of Staff job had finally reached her yesterday and she couldn't be happier. She knew it would be a sad day when Joe was no longer in the position, considering he had been so long as she'd known him. But she also knew she wouldn't have accepted anyone else being in charge aside from the woman who was her best friend and the reason she was still breathing, and likely would've just downgraded to volunteer work should Angie not get the job she'd rightfully earned.
"Hey guys, not too late for the party am I?"
"You, course not sweetpea."
Myra grinned as she gave Dixie a quick hug before letting her go return the favor to Cass and Jesse.
"Aw hows my best girl doing huh?"
She cooed as she tickled Ari a bit getting her squealing, and then squirming leading Tad to hand her over to Cass, only to turn to Dixie with a pouty expression on his face as he crossed his arms.
"Oh c'mere you."
Dixie chuckled as she pulled Tad into a short, sweet, and steamy kiss that he returned before they got a throat clearing from Myra, getting her blushing as she pulled away but put her arm around him and leaned on him.
"So yeah, where is our guest of honor anyhow?"

Jesse made sure everything was in place. He wanted the best for his wife. While he was opening the cake box he had Myra call to see where she was. They could tell Jesse was eager to see Angie.

“Chief the meeting is just about.” Myra said as she hung up the phone.
“What did she say?” Jesse asked taking his cell phone out his pocket. He was sure Angie was going to call him.
“All she know is when the time came for her to decide they sent her out the room. So my fly on the wall couldn’t blend in.” Myra chuckled.

Jesse was thrown off when he heard Ari. “Ma!” she yelped. He looked her way, he knew this was expected. Knew she was just saying what she could but for Jesse was a big deal. “Ma…. Ma… Ma!” she yelped again, and again.

“Somebody is trying.. Huh little missy.” Jesse clapped one time and she responded but then reached for him. Jesse couldn’t say no. He held her close and they started playing and talking to each other.

“Chief I think she is coming.” Myra said as one of her sidekicks knocked on the door quickly.
“Ok! Everybody get ready.” Jesse said.

A decision that would change her forever. She started wondering, after she told them her answer, if she made the right choice. “Angie you made the right choice…” she said to herself as she finally got off the door and walked down the hall. She walked and walked until she ended up in the elevator. On her way down she debated on calling her husband and telling him what just happened. Or would she just wait until she got home. She wondered what he would think of what she chosen. So many things were running through her head as she stepped off the elevator. Angie did manage to call Jesse.

She knew her face spoke a lot about how she felt but she didn’t care. She just did something crazy! Angie walked to her door just as she heard Jesse’s voice. “Hey baby… I just… I… We need to talk about something.” She unlocked the door and the minute she stepped in she was stunned speechless. “I…” She started, dropping her phone.

“Surprise!!!” They yelled.

She didn’t know what to say or do. Why?, she didn’t know but tears began to roll down her cheeks.

“You… You all… Oh my god.” She cried as it finally hit her. It hit her real good.

Angie nodded, she couldn't her words right. She couldn't even fix her lips for that matter. whimpered. “No… I mean yes… Yes they asked me.” she said as he looked at her crazy. “I know… I know but baby this is just… I’m emotional right now!” she sighed as she took a minute to compose herself once again.

“We talked and they told me what they thought. They told they thought I would be great for the job. Said they knew I would handle it to the best of my ability.” Angie explained. Those weren’t their exact words but it was close enough. Standing up she started pacing. She looked to her friends and sighed. She knew they were waiting on her decision. The minute she saw their faces again she knew she made the right choice. She did something that was going to challenge her in more ways than one. And that was one thing Angie loved, she loved a challenge.

Angie sighed again. Might as well go ahead and tell it. “You are all looking at the new Chief of Staff of Pine Valley Hospital!” she exclaimed. Jesse was the first to come up to her and hug her. “I couldn’t turn it down. Not in a million years.” Angie kissed him. Jesse was happy for sure, she could tell from the way he kissed her.

“Girl why you go scaring us like that! Gave me heart palpitations.” Myra said coming over and hugging her.
“Myra you are so going to get it. Just wait and see.” Angie warned playfully as she hugged her and smiled. Myra started laughing.
“Well I couldn’t tell you what was really going on. I think the word surprise has a specific meaning. Congratulation’s boss woman!”
“Thank you! And just because I am the chief doesn’t mean you have to be afraid of me. I don’t want anybody to act like they can’t be themselves. Myra promise me you won’t treat me like that.” Angie begged. She didn’t want to be known as the bad guy. The woman they didn’t really talk to because of her status. “Just because I have a new title doesn’t mean I am going to change my ways. I am going to be the same Angela Hubbard you all know and love.” Angie promised.
“As long as you don’t get a big head all is fine and dandy by me.” Myra teased giving her a motherly pat. “Make us proud.” she whispered.
