History: Kathy was biologically born to Dixie Cooney and Tad Martin, and while Dixie gave birth to her in Switzerland she gave her up for adoption. Only Dixie was tricked into believing she wasn’t going to make through the injuries of her car crash via Dr. Gregory Madden. Tad never stopped looking for his daughter the moment he found out she was alive, and had no idea she was soon to be right under his nose...
Kathy first arrived to Pine Valley in a horrible car accident that cost both her adoptive parents lives (Jim and Linda Mershon). She wasn’t left orphaned for long because her parents had a very good friend who lived there, Julia Santos. For a while Kathy remained at Wildwind with her Aunt Julia and her boyfriend Jamie Martin (until he left for Tanzania). Kathy’s friendship with Tad grew, and one day at the park, little Kathy waved to a mysterious woman in white, though she was the only one who saw her.
Kathy had attended a trip with her Aunt Julia to Australia where her Aunt was offered a nursing job there. The two were planning to pack up and move in with Maria (Julia’s sister) when things took a turn for the worst. During what was supposed to be a magical wedding for Jesse and Angie Hubbard, Robert Gardner came in and held Angie hostage and while Aiden went to take him down, he fired a shot that missed, and hit Julia instead. At this time Kathy was in the bathroom with Colby and had missed the whole commotion.
Colby and Kathy were taken back to the Mansion where Adam looked after the two of them for the night. At the hospital Julia’s condition was deteriorating fast, her liver was lacerated from the gunshot and she was bleeding internally. Julia didn’t want Kathy there when she passed, and in her last few breaths she let Joe Martin and Krystal know that Maria Santos would come and adopt Kathy, and she spoke highly of how much she loved the little girl before she passed on... Tad Martin was also hit with a bullet during the commotion and was in the hospital in a coma.
With a seemingly change of heart, Adam Chandler, who has known that Kathy was the Kate for quite sometime tells Krystal the truth, and then finally urges Tad to wake up from the coma after he announces it to him. After a touching moment between a long awaited reunion, Kathy finds out the truth of her biological family, and that the funny man she originally called her daddy, was indeed in her father.
Kathy moves into the Martin household with Tad, Krystal and baby Jenny and starts to adjust to her new life, yet again. It isn’t long before a little bit of tension is formed between Kathy and Krystal, and during a game of hide and seek she looks Krystal out of the house, with Jenny still inside. After a talk with her brother JR, the problems seem to be fixed, at least until Tad discovers her ‘mommy doll’ has gone missing and when he discovers it the head is gone. Another incident occurs when Kathy pushes Krystal off a ladder and onto baby Jenny in her playpen. Kathy quickly denies it and Tad believes her.
Eventually things smooth over between the two, but another tragedy befalls Pine Valley when the tornado sirens go off. During the storm they lose a few members of the Pine Valley community, one especially being Babe Chandler, Krystal’s daughter. The loss is so great that Krystal moves out and Kathy admits to Tad that “moms never come back” and after witnessing a fight, Kathy runs away, only to be found by Amanda who calls Krystal who takes her back home.
Life continues to go on for Kathy now, as she still lives with her dad in the busy Martin household...

Kathy was coming off a sugar rush when she ran through and plunked herself down on the couch in the Martin household, holding her Barbie doll close. The cookies were out of the oven and cooling down, just waiting for her dad to get home. The whole house smelt delicious, and as she reached for the TV remote to turn on the television she heard a familiar click at the front door and jumped up in excitement.
“Daddy! Daddy!” she exclaimed as she ran through to greet him at the front door. “You’re home! Come and see what I did at school today!” She tugged Tad’s hand, and then released it as she went back into the living room, pulling up her backpack and removing a painting she’d done at school.
“Do you like it?” she asked, holding it up higher for him to see. “It’s got you, mommy and me!” She smiled at her dad and then moved forward it, allowing him to get a better look.
