"Yeah, it does.", nodded Dixie, smiling as Kathy's smile broadened. "Oh honey it's completely okay.", she reassured. "No, jewelry is meant to be worn. And I know you would take good care of it." Putting the car in drive Dixie pulled out of the lot, and after picking up Nolan and Tara at Opal's, in a few minutes they all finally got back home. The twins were snoozy so after getting them settled in the nursery, Dixie brought Kathy over to her room, and after getting the bracelet from her jewelry case sat beside her on the bed. Handing over the thin silver chain with a crystal moon dangling off it.
"You know when I was a kid, I used to sneak this out of my mom's jewelry box so I could wear it to school, and then I'd put it back hoping she wouldn't have realized it was gone. After awhile she finally just gave it to me to keep." Smiling she wrapped the chain around her wrist, wanting to make sure the bracelet would fit before fastening it. It looked like it would but she wanted to make sure Kathy liked it first. "See the moon is just like the one on your necklace. If you don't like it though or don't want to wear it, it's okay. I wouldn't be mad. I just thought I'd ask."

“I would look after the bracelet always, promise,” Kathy told her mom with a nod. She spent most of the drive glancing over at the necklace in its bag and then out the window quickly so her mom couldn’t see her. Once they got the twins and were back home, having put the two of them to bed, Kathy followed her mom into her bedroom and sat on the bed. Watching as she pulled out the bracelet and handed it to her.
“It’s so pretty,” she gasped as she held it in her hand and then brought it up to the light. It shined and twinkled and as she watched it she listened to her moms story. She’d often thought about looking in her moms jewellery box on her own, but knew if she got caught it would be really bad, so to hear that her mom had done it made things interesting.
“Did she know it was gone?” she asked with a tilted head. “Is that why she gave it to you in the end?” When her mom took the bracelet back and wrapped it around her wrist, Kathy grinned and examined it more carefully now.
“I love it mommy!” she exclaimed, looking away from it and to Dixie. “Yes I want to wear it! But do... do I have to work for it as well? Once the house is clean... what else can I do?” She hadn’t thought of that and it sent a wave of worry through her as she realized that she’d need to think of more things to clean if her mom wasn’t giving her the bracelet.

"Yeah after awhile she figured it out. My momma was pretty smart.", smiled Dixie as Kathy admired the bracelet. But couldn't help chuckling at how concerned she was to earn it doing chores. In this sense she was not her father's daughter.
"Honey all you have to earn with the chores is the necklace you picked. The bracelet is a gift though, okay? Think of it like a birthday or a Christmas present. One you can wear right now.", she grinned, fastening it around her daughter's wrist, happy to see it fit her like a glove.
"And besides, you know I've always wanted to give this to you. It meant a lot to me and my mom and, I knew if I ever was lucky enough to have a little girl...I'd want it to mean a lot to her too." Gently Dixie reached to smooth Kathy's hair back with the tips of her fingers.
"So listen if you want, we can get a jump on some cleaning before dinner. I was gonna try and get the attic straightened up, sort through some old boxes and stuff. Also, if...I'm not mistaken I think that's where I stashed some of those old Halloween costumes.", she hinted. "What you say, you wanna give me a hand?"

“My mommy is pretty smart too,” Kathy commented, bouncing a little on her spot on the bed. She fell quiet listening to her mom explain that she didn’t have to work for the bracelet like she did the necklace, that it was a gift to her and she could wear it right now. “I want to wear it all the time, unless I can only wear it on special days?” She held her wrist up and studied it a little better, glad it fit perfect.
“You have?” she asked with wide eyes as her mom told her that she’d always wanted to give it to her. “It means a lot mommy, it’s my favourite bracelet now!” She clutched her wrist with her free hand and brought it up to her chest with a huge smile, looking up at her mom as she touched her hair.
“Can we work on the attic now then?” Kathy demanded, hopping off the bed in excitement at her moms hint. “We can sort out the attic and the costumes... but wait, there’s no ghosts up in the attic right?” She gave her mom an almost fearful look. “Or spiders? Spiders can be scary too.” She shivered but made her way to the door, opening it slowly and walking out into the hallway.
“Do we need anything in the attic to clean it?” she asked, wondering if they’d need a broom, or gloves or things. “I can get a broom, if we need one?”

"Oh!", blushed Dixie. Touched when Kathy said the bracelet was her favorite. She'd set that aside for her not long after learning she was pregnant and was thrilled to finally give it to her. Nodding at the demand, she chuckled when she mentioned ghosts. "None that I know of, baby. But I'm sure if we did have any they'd be very nice.", she assured. But her smile went to a frown at the spider mention. "Oooh, yikes!", she shuddered. "You're right they are scary. I sure hope we don't see any."
Putting her hand at the small of Kathy's back they walked out to the hall, before she brought up brooms. "Well I don't think it'd hurt. It could be a little dusty up there.", frowned Dixie. "You know, I think there's a bucket by the broom that has some gloves and a dustpan in it? If you could grab that I'll head up to the attic and see what's what, make sure it's free of spiders and spooks."
Seeing Kathy agreed with the plan, after she went to the broom closet, Dixie walked over to the attic and flipped on the lightswitch. Glancing around there wasn't anything out of the ordinary, just dust and lots of boxes. Poking through them it didn't take long for her to find some containing clothes, and the promised costumes. Including to her surprise, a yellow feathery suit underneath them all. "I had no idea he kept this!" Giggling she set that box aside to show Kathy, but groaned at the dust left behind. "Sunshine? You find everything alright?", she called, and reaching up took a rag to the dusty shelf.

“A nice ghost like Casper and his friends?” Kathy asked, relieved to learn that if they did have ghosts they’d be of the friendly kind. “I hope we don’t see any scary spiders because they like to dangle down from their web and swing in front of your face.” Her eyes went wide with horror at jus the thought and she shook her head as they walked out of the bedroom together.
“And if we get a broom then we can sweep the floor and make sure it’s clean,” she agreed with a nod at her moms mention of it getting dusty in the attic. “I can get everything we need!” She nodded and headed to the closet quickly, gathering up all the items her mom had mentioned and heading towards the stairs. Once she was up with her mom she put it all down in a heap and coughed a little as a stir of dust rose up.
“What did you find?” she questioned, looking over the boxes to see the yellow feathery thing her mom had found. “What is that?” She pulled it out of the box and held it up with a frown as she examined it before her eyes went wide. “It’s a chicken! Like my stuffy, Mister Chicken!” She grinned hugely and jumped up and down with excitement. “It’s just like him.” She put the costume back in the box and went over to the thing she’d brought up.
“I got everything, see?” she told her, pointing at it all. “I’m going to start sweeping and then I’m going to sort out the boxes, okay?” She took the broom and started making her way around the attic, careful not to kick too much dust into the air. When she was sure she was finished one side she came back over and took a seat down.
“Mommy can we look through costumes for a little bit? I’m kind of tired,” she told her glancing at the boxes before frowning. “Why is there a chicken costume up here? Who was a chicken for Halloween?” She looked up at her mom interest, curious to know why they really had one. OOC: I always wanted Kathy to hear the story of how her dad asked her mom to marry him. =D

(OOC: ;D ) "Look in that box right there, sweetie.", Dixie instructed. And turning, grinned when Kathy went wide eyed at the chicken suit. "Yeah now that I get a better look, it could be his bigger twin!", she chuckled. While Kathy swept the floors Dixie dusted the shelves and cleaned the cabinets. And after finding some silverware Palmer must've given to her in one of the cupboards, sat on the floor and started polishing it. "Absolutely, c'mere." Patting the empty spot beside her on the rug where Kathy could sit, pulling the box closer Dixie smiled. "Would you believe me if I told you that your dad of all people wore this chicken suit? It was a long, long time ago, when J.R was still a baby. And he didn't wear it for Halloween, he wore it to a dinner party at Cortlandt Manor!" Chuckling at the stunned look on Kathy's face, she continued with the story. "The party was one that he threw together for me, 'cause he wanted to cheer me up. See back then, J.R's dad schemed and pulled a lot of tricks so that he could raise J.R instead of me. A few of them worked. And for awhile he had custody, and was making it really tough for me to see your brother. I was so upset and I cried a whole lot. But your dad did everything he could to try and make me smile and laugh; he kept telling me these dumb jokes, even took me shopping. He bought me an evening dress at the Boutique to wear to the party he was giving. And even fixed it so that the fancy dinner we were gonna eat was chicken fingers! I remember your Uncle Palmer was ready to call the Dobermans on him for that.", she smiled sadly. "But after we'd all finished eating your dad said he had to run out and do an errand. Turned out though he just ran to the guesthouse to change out of his tuxedo and into yellow feathers! I answered the door and there he was! And he got me laughing so hard, baby. I thought for sure that was the only surprise that night. But then he went and handed me a take out container from the Chicken Shack. But there wasn't any chicken fingers inside, just a jewelry box with this." Smiling sentimentally Dixie held up her hand with her wedding ring. "Your daddy dressed as a chicken to ask me to marry him, sunshine.", she smiled, a bit sheepishly. "Well..he did the first time he asked, anyway."

Kathy took a seat in the spot her mom had patted and curiously examined the box and the chicken suit as it was pulled towards her. She quickly looked up as her mom mentioned that her dad had wore the suit at one point and she stared at her in disbelief.
“He did? Really?” she gasped and then burst into laughter at just the thought. “Why didn’t he wear it at Halloween? And why did he wear it to a dinner, did everyone laugh?” She couldn’t believe it, and fell silent quickly as her mom went on with the story. But as it continued she began to look worriedly at her mom.
“Why would he not want you to see J.R.?” she asked, pulling her knees up to her chest and hugging them. “That’s not a very nice thing to do.” She didn’t like the idea of that at all, especially not when it came to her mom. Brightening up a bit as the story continued about her dad helping her mom out she smiled a little over her knees.
“Daddy knows how to take care of you, mommy!” she exclaimed before putting a hand to her lips as her mom continued. “Did he call them on daddy? Did daddy get hurt?” She shook her head, trying to get the thought out of it before bursting into a fit of giggles as her mom explained what her dad had done and put on. “He was wearing the chicken suit? And he made you laugh!” She went quiet again and looked down at her moms hand with the wedding ring on it before up at her with wide eyes.
“He asked you to marry him?” she whispered, smiling as her mom confirmed it and then came forward hugging her tight. “I bet that was the best day ever.” She pulled back a little, her arms loose around her mom. “Daddy made you happy and all better right? Because you weren’t laughing, but he helped make you laugh... did daddy get J.R. back too?” She looked up at her curiously, hoping not to make her mom unhappy by asking this. OOC: Sorry this took forever! "You're right, it wasn't nice. But there was a long story behind it, honey. And it happened a long time ago.", answered Dixie, as Kathy kept peppering her with questions in her excited eager little way. "Yeah he did!", she exclaimed before getting pulled into a hug. "Well it definitely tops my list." Hearing her ask about J.R, Dixie gave her a reassuring nod. "Yeah he did. Along with a lot of other people. Your grandparents, Uncle Palmer, my brother Will, Mr. Montgomery. Even some old friends of mine and your dad's named Nico and Cecily. They all teamed up to make sure I was gonna be the one raising J.R. Even kept Adam from moving to England with him!" Fiddling with the feathers on the suit Dixie smiled a bit. "But you're absolutely right about your dad, he took care of me better than anyone. But you know I took care of him a few times too. Like the time I kept him from drowning in an icy river.", she said matter of factly. Pretending it was no big deal even though back then in Canada she and Tad had fought for their lives about five times over. OOC: Don't worry about it, I've got similar symptoms. :/ And thanks for the link! That is a terrific vid!

“They all helped to get J.R. back?” Kathy asked with surprise as she pulled out of the hug and settled back down on the floor. “Really? Why did he want to move to England? That’s really far!” She couldn’t believe how many people had helped to make sure her mom was looking after her brother instead of his dad. The idea of someone trying to keep her brother away from their mom was sad and it got her thinking.
“Mommy, what about Aunt Julia?” she questioned looking worriedly. “Aunt Julia didn’t try and keep me away from daddy before he found me. If... if Aunt Julia wasn’t in Heaven, where would I be? I... I’d be in Australia, wouldn’t I? We were going to move there because she got a job... I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t know that daddy or you were my parents.” The thought tore her up a bit, because she missed Julia and wished she was still here, but she didn’t want to be away from her parents...
“You took care of daddy too?” Kathy repeated with a tilt of her head before she gasped, bringing a hand up to her lips. “You were drowning in a cold river?! What happened! How did you and daddy get out of it?” She wanted to hear more of this and crossed her legs as she sat, waiting patiently for the next story. OOC: -snugs-!!!!!

"Yeah it is far. But at the time Chandler Enterprises was doing a lot of business overseas and Adam wanted to move to London for the sake of the company. But he didn't end up going, and neither did your brother. Thank goodness.", Dixie said, relieved even all this time later that Adam's plot against her had been foiled. Her thoughts were interrupted though when Kathy questioned her, about Julia of all people. "What about her, baby?", she asked curiously, listening closely as she explained about Julia and the job in Australia. And bit her lip trying to think of the best way to respond.
"You're right baby, your Aunt Julia didn't do a thing to keep you away from your dad. And neither did your adoptive parents. All of them were, wonderful people who loved you, and cared for you. At a time when me and your dad, couldn't. Not because we didn't want to. Because we were forced to, by lots and lots of things that we just didn't have control over. But all that time that we were apart, your dad and I never stopped looking for you, or missing you, or loving you. We both loved you before you were even born, Kathy. And all that love, it can do a lot you know? I always thought that it would be what protected you, that it would make sure you were with good people, and that one day it would be enough to bring you back to us. And it did, it connected you and your Aunt Julia and, later on you and Daddy. Even when none of you were totally sure what the connection meant. I mean, even before you thought you were gonna move, you and him were close and, I bet anything that, he'd have moved heaven and earth to have stayed in touch with you. Same as I bet that one day in spite of everything, he'd have figured out the truth and found you. It might have taken a little longer but, one way or another you and him would've found a way to eachother. I don't doubt that for a second.", said Dixie knowingly. "I mean, your dad and I found eachother, tons of times. Even when we weren't trying to. Fate wanted him and I to be together and eventually, for you to know and be with us. Same as fate wanted you to be loved Kathy. Not just by us but by a bunch of other amazing people. And you were. You definitely were." Smiling, she saw Kathy's ears perk up at the story teaser and chuckled a bit at how eager she was.
"Well..it happened a long time ago. J.R was just about your age and Jamie was just about a year old. Your dad had told me he was going up to Canada on this hunting trip. Only the thing was, he was going to go with this man named Ted. Ted used to be a friend of mine but, once he learned that your dad and I were going out, he got very jealous and wanted me for himself. So he decided, that he was going to invite your dad on this hunting trip but set traps for him all over the woods to try and hurt him. Well I was nervous about your dad going on the trip in the first place, so I snuck up to Canada myself, and not long after found some maps Ted had drawn up explaining what he was really up to. I looked all over the woods for your dad to try and warn him about the traps. Even crossed paths with a mountain lion trying to track him down! Til finally, I got to one of the spots marked on the map. But not knowing what the trap was, I fell into it and fell off this rock ledge into the river. I'd broken my foot and I was soaked and freezing cold, but luckily your dad found me and got us both to a cave. He built a fire and found us blankets to keep warm, but his arm hurt as bad as my foot. We were both feeling pretty awful but we knew, if we wanted to get out of the woods and into town for help, we'd have to cross the river again. So the next morning, we were helping eachother across the river but your dad slipped on one of the rocks, fell in the water and started floating downstream! I kept yelling hoping he'd hear me but, the rapids were too loud and, he'd hit his head and been knocked out by the current. Well...I did not come all the way up north to watch your father drown. So I floated down the current as best I could and eventually managed to get a hold of him. Kathy, I don't think I ever held him so tight in my life, or been so scared. We were freezing and because of my foot I couldn't try and stand to get us out. I thought though my prayers were answered when I saw someone walking in the woods. Until I got a better look and saw that it was Ted! He told me to let go of your dad so he could pull him out of the river on the other side of it. And after I made him swear on my life not to hurt your dad, I let him go and Ted, saved us from the river and brought us to a cabin. Afterwards, Ted left and I never, ever saw him again. And your dad and I got back to Pine Valley safe and sound, but if we hadn't worked together back then..gosh, I think we'd both still be up North."

“You were looking for me?” Kathy questioned with a small frown, tilting her head just a little. “Was I missing? Why would someone force you not to be with me? Did someone not want us to be together? And... and if it wasn’t Aunt Julia or my adoptive parents, then... then who would do that?” She paused for a second before thinking. “Was it Adam?” She nodded slowly as her mom told her about love doing a lot, this she knew. “I loved you before I was born too.” She gave her mom a smile and then fell quiet as she continued.
“When I first met him at the hospital, I called him daddy,” she told her mom with a small nod, before shaking her head. “Then I was told I couldn’t do that by everyone... but I still wanted him to be my daddy, because Emma had her knew daddy and... I thought he could be mine. Was it because of the connection that I thought that?” Again she nodded as her mom explained that her dad would have done anything to stay connected to her if she’d moved to Australia with Julia. “Would daddy have gone down to Australia and made me come home if he found out? I don’t know what I’d do because... because if Aunt Julia was still alive I would want to be with her but... then I’d want to be with daddy and you and my brother and sister...” The thought confused her and scared her a little, as much as she wanted Aunt Julia to be alive and with her, she didn’t want to be apart from her family. “I think I’d be scared.” She looked up at her mom, afraid to have admitted that.
“I was loved, by Aunt Julia and Jamie when he lived with her and by my adoptive parents, they all looked after me, but then... then some of them went away to be with the angels,” she whispered, heaving a sad at the thought of never seeing them again. When her mom started in on the story, she rubbed her eyes and listened intently to what she was being told.
“Daddy used to be a hunter?” she asked in awe, her mouth opening slightly before it shut again before it fell open once more. “Why would he do that? Daddy loves you, he shouldn’t want to hurt him!” At the mention of the mountain lion, she squeaked and cupped a hand over her mouth, hoping to hear that her mom had been okay. “Did the mean man who did this not see that he was wrong? He didn’t help you out? I’m glad daddy found you! Why did you have to cross the river? There was no other way out?” She gave another gasp when her mom told her what had happened the next day, about her dad hitting his head and passing out.
“But you held on, right? You never let go and... and... you got out?” she asked, then stopped, letting her mom continue to explain what had happened. “No! Ted was wrong, you shouldn’t let go of daddy! He was mean and... and...” She swallowed back tears as her mom explained what had happened and how she had let go and Ted had saved them both. “I’m glad you and were okay and that it ended up being good... but that was scary mommy, I don’t like that mean Ted guy.” Kathy wrapped her arms so tight around her mom, and hugged her, afraid to let go.

When Kathy began asking what or who was responsible for her being kept away all those years, Dixie sighed. Her daughter had so many questions, with answers that were painful if anything to give her. And the last thing she wanted to do was frighten or worry her little girl, tell her things she shouldn't ever have to know.
"No..baby, no. It wasn't Adam, believe me.", Dixie sighed, shaking her head before her face went solemn. "The man that kept us apart is gone, sunshine. And I promise you, he's never ever coming back." Pulling Kathy onto her lap she kissed the side of her head. "All you need to know about him, was he was a doctor whose job was to help moms and their babies. But, he didn't do his job well. Instead of caring about his patients and what they wanted, he would trick and lie to them because he was selfish and wanted to get his way. He tricked and lied to me in the hospital after you were born, and because of it...he got his way and you away from me. He didn't care how much your dad and I cared about you, just about himself and..being powerful. Lucky for us though he wasn't powerful enough to keep us apart.", Dixie said with relief. "There's a lot more that happened back then Kathy, but it's a long, complicated story your dad and I don't like to tell too much. All that matters is the best part, that we got you back."
Feeling just as emotional as Kathy as she spoke about how connected she was with her, with Tad, tears in her eyes Dixie heard her confession and bit her lip. Struggling to come up with the right words. "I understand why you'd have felt scared, baby. As much as I don't like to think about it, you've been through a whole lot..and some of it has been pretty scary, I know. But I also know that your dad and Julia are very, very smart. Almost as smart as you. I bet they'd have worked together to make sure you had everything you needed, that you were loved, so you wouldn't have to feel confused or afraid. Same as your dad and I work together now." At her remark about the angels, Dixie softly smiled and held her close.
"Yeah, some of them did. But, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, baby. One you gotta promise you won't tell anyone else. A few years back, after I ate those pancakes that hurt my heart..a lot of people were convinced I left to stay with the angels for good. But all I really did was pay a few a short visit. Like, your adoptive parents, and your Aunt Julia. And they told me, even though it was so hard saying goodbye to you, that all the love they have for you, is so strong they gotta send it every single day. Not only that but, each time you have a memory of them, they're right there, that close. They said it's like they're right around the corner from you, and even though you've got a long long life ahead of you, you'll be with them again when the time is right. And they also demanded, that your dad and I love the stuffing out of you, til they can join in along with us someday."
Dixie couldn't help but be amused at Kathy's gasps and awestruck expressions as she told the story, but when her mood changed, she panicked and guilt instantly set in. Since this story had a happy ending she thought it would be appropriate to tell but, the tears in Kathy's eyes were telling her otherwise. "Oh Kathy..I..it was okay though..Ted saved our lives! I..if he hadn't helped me with your dad we never would've gotten out of the river!" Feeling heartbroken when Kathy clung onto her, saying the story was scary, Dixie clung back just as tight. "I'm so sorry, baby. I never wanted to scare you! Mommy's so sorry." Once Kathy relaxed in her arms, Dixie pulled back to thumb a stray tear off her face. "Sunshine, I swear to you that guy is long, long gone. He saved your dad and I and that was the last we ever saw him.", she assured. But could see a little fear still flickering in Kathy's eyes and, couldn't live with herself if it stayed there. "You know if you like I could tell you a crazy super funny story, like your dad does with me when I get upset. I promise, you'll laugh so hard you won't remember one bit of scary stuff. What do you say?"

“You promise? Cross your heart?” Kathy asked as her mom pulled her into her lap. “I don’t want him to take me away again.” When her mom told her the story about the doctor who had taken her away from her mom, Kathy frowned at the thought and wondered why a doctor would do something like that. Doctors weren’t supposed to hurt people... although, there was Doctor David.
“The doctor who did all that... it wasn’t Doctor David was it?” she questioned, worriedly. “Is that why he’s so mean to you and daddy? Because I’m back with you now?” When she looked up, she saw tears in her moms eyes and Kathy gently reached up and wiped her cheeks with her hand gently, beginning to feel tears well up in her own.
“Mommy,” she choked out with a small sob, as she listened to her talk about Julia and her dad. “They would have looked after me together, and... and everything would have been fine. I wouldn’t have been able to choose between Aunt Julia and daddy, because I love them both and I wouldn’t want to make one of them sad.” At the mention of keeping a secret, she raised a finger to her lips and nodded, she would keep it safe.
“You saw them all in Heaven?” she whispered in awe, her mouth hanging open a little. Her smile widened and her eyes prickled with tears as she listened carefully to what her adoptive parents and Aunt Julia had said to her mom when she was in Heaven. “I think about them all the time and I’m going to love them forever... but now I know they’re right there, they’re watching over me and making rainbows. I hope I can see them again after my long life.” She grinned at the last bit about them demanding that her parents love the stuffing out of her, that much had already come true.
By the end of the long story her mom had told her, she was still clinging to her mom and afraid to let her go, tears running down her cheeks. She hadn’t liked the idea of what the mean man named Ted had done to her parents, despite the fact that it turned out alright. Pulling back slowly from the hug she looked up at her mom and fought against more tears.
“I know you didn’t mean to scare me mommy, Ted scared me! Not you,” she exclaimed through tears and shook her head, trying to relax a bit. Once she was fully relaxed, she let her mom wipe away a stray tear before sniffling as her mom continued to soothingly speak. “I’m glad he’s not around anymore, he wasn’t very nice.” Though she was worried he might try and come back and hurt her dad or mom one day and if that was the case, she would do everything she could to protect them.
“Okay!” she nodded enthusiastically, her long blonde ponytails flopping as her mom offered to tell her a funny story. “I want to hear the crazy superfunnystory. Is it about you and daddy? Or about someone else?” She was clinging with eagerness now, her mood back to being excited instead of fearful.

"I promise.", Dixie smiled, making the motion on her heart. But shook her head firmly when Kathy mentioned David. Knowing he'd caused such fear in not one but two of her kids, right then Dixie would've given anything to strangle him with her bare hands. But she kept her anger in check for her daughter's sake.
"No, it wasn't David, sunshine. The doctor that kept us apart was a different man and, he was punished for what he did to us. Punished in a way that will keep anyone from ever being hurt by him again. So you have no reason to fear him, alright?", she assured. Not wanting to go into details but needing Kathy to understand Madden was in the past.
"Kathy you couldn't make either of them sad. I don't think you ever could." Relieved Kathy was eager to switch gears and hear a funny story, Dixie just had to decide which one would be the funniest to tell.
"Well this story involves me and your dad. But the someone else is what makes it.", she grinned. "What happened was, your dad and I, to do a favor for a friend, took a drive out to the country in this bright red car. But since your dad didn't want to ask for directions, we got lost and wound up parking near this dairy farm by all these cows. He kept teasing me for liking the country air and, I got mad til I saw the surprise picnic lunch he'd made for me. We were distracted and not paying attention when suddenly this, giant bull walked right up to our car! Turned out he liked the color of it and wouldn't leave it alone or get out of our path to leave! Your dad was gonna honk the horn at him but, I told him he couldn't scare him. Not after I named him Ferdinand and everything. So finally your dad, not knowing what else to do, grabbed a sandwich from the picnic basket and tried to feed him. He got out of the car and dropped the sandwich, but when he tried to get away Ferdinand followed him! I didn't see what happened but when your dad got back in the car, his hair and the side of his face was all slicked over. And he told me Ferdinand backed him towards a tree, leaned right up and kissed him! Right on the mouth! Needless to say I teased your dad quite a bit after that. But, later after I kissed him to say I was sorry, I looked up and Ferdinand was gone! Guess he just got jealous of me is all.", Dixie shrugged with a smirk on her face. But hoped this had done the trick and gotten Kathy's mind off anything upsetting.
