"You're welcome, sweetheart." Dixie said with a sad smile. That broadened when Kathy reached over and squeezed her hand. Her doing that would never ever stop feeling wonderful and right. Blinking back tears at her request she nodded. Her hungry stomach be damned, she was staying put til Kathy started snoring. And even then it would be tough for her to leave. "Baby of course I can stay with you. I'd love nothing more. Just give me one second, okay?" Squeezing her hand back, Dixie got up and moved the ottoman near the rocker closer to the couch. Allowing her to stick close to Kathy and not have her legs fall asleep sitting on the floor. "Ah..there we go.". Once the ottoman was positioned near the couch, Dixie took a seat, took back Kathy's hand, and gave her daughter a smile. "See, right here. Now go on and try and get some sleep..", she suggested. But saw even in the dim light Kathy's eyes were glistening. "Hey...shhh, it's okay. Don't you worry, I'm not going anywhere babe. I promise." Thinking it'd be best to back up her actions with some relocating on her part, Dixie moved onto the couch and eased back into the cushions, then motioned for Kathy to move her way. The girl obliged and was small enough so the two of them could cuddle comfortably beside each other. "This better?", she asked getting a nod. And after pulling the blanket over them both, while Kathy held her chick, Dixie held her. Humming she waited til she heard Kathy's soft snore before letting herself drift off. Not realizing how exhausted she was until she closed her eyes. ********** When Dixie's eyes cracked open, it took her a moment to remember where she was, how she got here. But when things clicked, right away she panicked. When she'd gone to sleep Kathy was right beside her, but now.. "K..Kathy? Kathy!" Throwing the covers off herself she stood up and half stumbled out the door into the hallway. Her eyes hurt from sleepiness and adjusting to the light, but she didn't care. She needed to find her daughter. "Okay..okay where would she be, where would she go. Where..." Her eyes darting around, she spotted the chapel doors and sighed sadly, shaking her head before walking over. Peeking through the doors she watched Kathy pray to Julia. When she brought up Tad, it took all Dixie's strength not to break down sobbing right there in the hall. Taking a deep breath, she dried her eyes and walked in, right as Kathy nervously stood. "So, you were talking to Julia, huh?", she asked getting a nod. "You're worried about Tad." Getting another nod, she sighed, guiding Kathy over to the pew. "I know. I'm worried too. I'm so worried about Tad. But look, you're not alone. In fact you and I, we're both gonna need eachother to get through this." Dixie admitted. "But Kathy...I'm glad you feel comfortable here and I understand why you snuck away to be in here tonight. But when I woke up and didn't know where you were.." Trailing off she wiped a tear from her eye, before pulling Kathy into a tight hug. "You can't do that to me alright? Especially now. I'm worried enough as it is right now, I..I don't want to have to worry about you sneaking off on me like this again. Okay?", she sighed, her voice cracking as she spoke. Still shaken over waking up and not knowing where her daughter was, and not doing a very good job of hiding it.

Kathy’s eyes travelled from the floor to the footsteps and then to the face of Dixie as she walked further into the chapel. Relieved at who it was, and glad no one was going to get her in to trouble for being inside the place alone, she gave Dixie a sad look before slowly nodding in response to her question about Julia.
“I woke up and she wasn’t there,” she explained quietly. “It made me sad and miss her.” When she mentioned being worried about Tad, Kathy nodded, and felt the tears prickle her eyes. “I don’t want Tad to go away like everyone else, so I thought maybe the Angels could help.” She followed Dixie’s lead to the pew and scooped the baby chicken stuffy up and hugged it close, taking a seat down and listening to her as she spoke.
“We will?” she asked when she was told they were gonna need each other to get through, and slowly she began to understand and nodded. She heard what Dixie was saying now, about her having snuck off and glanced down at her lap, feeling guilty for what she did. “Aunt Julia didn’t like when I went away without her knowing either. I’m sorry Dixie.” She hugged her back when she was pulled into it and wrapped both her arms around her tightly.
“O-Okay,” she sniffled, voice wavering as she began to feel hot tears burning in her eyes and sliding down her cheek. “I’m sorry.” She began to sob as the guilt hit her and she curled against Dixie until exhaustion retook her and she was soon fast asleep.

Sighing sadly as Kathy admitted to missing Julia, not wanting Tad to go away, Dixie quickly wiped a tear away from her eye, then held Kathy as tight as she could. Not long after the girl was snoring softly in her arms. And as much as Dixie wanted to relocate she was too tired to even move, and didn't have the heart to move Kathy. Scrunching down into the corner of the pew, she drifted off only to be woken up a bit later by a tap on her shoulder. "Dixie..Dixie wake up." "Huh? Wh..what?" Sleepily she sat up and saw Aidan looking at her with worry filled eyes. "Ai..Aidan.?" "You need to come with me." Immediately Dixie's stomach knotted and her heart was in her mouth. She knew what was wrong and her friend didn't need to say a single word.
Getting off the bench, she exchanged looks with Opal standing by the door, before following Aidan down the hall towards Tad's room. Standing at the door she saw Jake and the other doctors working frantically on him, trying to get the alarms to stop beeping so quickly. "T..Tad..", she breathed. Without thinking twice she tried to walk in the door but was held back by Aidan. Shooting him a glare she broke from his hold, only to be blocked by Jake and Joe. "Dixie you can't be in-" "Watch me!!"
Pushing her way to her husband's side, Dixie's right hand gripped Tad's while her left started smoothing his hair. "So help me Tad Martin, you will NOT do this to me, you understand? Y..you need to come back to me now, just like you've always done. And not just for me..for our daughter! Honey, we found her. Kathy Mershon..she's our little girl, Tad. She's our Kate! She needs you now. Just as much as I do. Together forever..right? Please, baby. Please stay. For me, for Kathy..for Kate! C'mon Tad."
Fighting tears, and fighting to keep talking, Dixie refused to budge despite Joe and Jake's efforts. She'd stay as long as it took for her to know her husband would be alright, and talk as loudly as she had to to make Tad listen. Not realizing then and there who else was listening as well...

Kathy awoke to Dixie moving and getting up off the pew, afraid she was going to leave her she too sat up and looked around with blurry confused eyes. When the room came into focus she saw Aidan talking with Dixie and Opal standing at the doorway. It wasn’t long before the three of them were headed out of the room and down the hall, and Kathy was up quickly following after them.
“Is something wrong?” she asked but her question was lost as they neared Tad’s room. When Dixie entered the room and the others tried to stop her, Kathy stood worriedly in the hallway unable to do anything. The beeping was loud and everything was happening to fast for her to keep up and when Dixie was allowed through Kathy tried to follow. No one stopped her, it was like no one could see her, but it didn’t matter, something was happening to Tad and if she could help, she would try.
When she was in the room, standing near the bed she heard what Dixie was telling Tad to try and get him to stay with them and not go with the angels. For a minute Kathy became still, unsure of what she meant by all of this and very confused. She couldn’t be Tad and Dixie’s daughter, they weren’t her parents, everyone had told her not to call Tad daddy. Why would she say this?
“I’m not Kate,” she whispered weakly, tears welling up from fear and confusion. “Am I? No. I’m Kathy... I’m Kathy. R-Right?” Fear spurred her to move and she turned nearly bumping into the equipment and machine hooked up to Tad. “N-No!” She flailed at it and took off down the hall, fleeing straight into the waiting room and falling to floor where she crossed her legs and sat, hands in her head. “I’m not Kate. I’m not... no, I don’t know. I want Aunt Julia. I want my mommy!” OOC: It’s perfect hun!!! I’m sorry about Kathy’s reaction.

So fixated on Tad, it didn't click right away with Dixie that Kathy had even entered the room. Let alone heard a word of what she'd said. So when the girl collided with the equipment and darted out, Dixie was startled and torn. Stay with her husband, chase down her daughter. Unsure she stayed trapped in place, too emotional to take a step. Soon Joe sensed this along with Jake and together they guided Dixie away from Tad's bedside. "No! No but he..he needs me. Tad! TAD!!! "Dix. Dixie c'mon, please." Jake sighed. "You need to try and relax. With your heart you can't afford to-" "You think I care about myself Jake!!", snapped Dixie, breaking his hold on her. "My husband is in there fighting for his life. My daughter is grieving for every parent she's ever known! Two people I love more than anything on this earth are hurt and in pain and I can't do a thing to stop it! I..I can't do this anymore! I can't do it alone anymore. Stuck standing around seeing them this hurt, I..I can't..." Her voice trailing off, finally Dixie was left to do the one thing that came natural to her when things got this tough, run. Be anywhere but here. She was so emotional it hurt and she didn't know how much more stress she could take on. Everything that was going on was killing her inside. Turning the corner she walked over to a bench in the empty nurse's lounge, sat, and put her head in her hands, too tired to even cry. For awhile she just sat lost in thought, until she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking up she saw Ruth looking down at her. Her mother in law was just as distraught but still managed to come and comfort her. Leaving Dixie feeling even more guilty. She should be doing this for Kathy right now. Only problem was in her current state it seemed impossible. "I'm sorry Ruth. I...I can't-" "Shhh, I know sweetheart. I know." Sitting beside Dixie on the bench Ruth pulled her into a tight hug and slowly rubbed her back. "Take it from me..you can't help anyone feel alright if you're not alright yourself." "But Kathy..she, she needs me." "Yes, she needs you strong and ready to take care of her. But you can't do that if you're not caring for yourself, taking time to deal with things yourself. Dixie you're just as scared and hurt right now as your daughter. If you try and help her now you're just going to add to the pain you're both in." "But I need to be with her. I..I need to know that she's alright." "She will be alright..in time. She has you, and she'll have Tad. And you'll both be able to give her all the love she needs." Hearing Ruth mention Tad new tears filled Dixie's eyes as she pulled back. "I saw Tad in there though, Ruth. He was so pale. I..it was like he was.." "I know. But he came back, dear. He's been stabilized, he's resting now. And he'll come back for us, mark my words. My son will come back. Just like your daughter did." At this a soft smile formed on the blond's face. Knowing Tad was stable gave her a bit more strength. "She's really here with us though, Ruth. Our Kate's back." "Yes. Gran's given her namesake her strength and her spirit. I knew she'd find her way back to us somehow." "But she's, been through so much. And she's so confused. How..how am I supposed to tell her everything? How can I?" "You'll find the right words, at the right time. Now though just tell her what you know she can handle." Ruth instructed. And after one more reassuring hug, Dixie managed to get up and over to where Opal was watching Kathy. "How's she.." "Oh sugarplum. I tried but..she won't hear a word. She just wants Julia and, her mommy." "C...could you give us a minute?" With a nod Opal stepped out, before Dixie stepped over to the center of the room, kneeling beside Kathy on the floor. "Kathy..?" Not getting a response even after tapping her on the shoulder, Dixie sighed but kept talking in spite of things. "Honey I just wanted to tell you that, Tad's gonna be okay. The machines stopped beeping so loud and so fast and, that's good. That means he's still with us. And now his only job is to wake up. Open his eyes and see your beautiful face." Shifting from kneeling to a sitting position, Dixie stroked Kathy's pigtail gently. "I know you overheard me in his room talking to him though. And..that's okay, I'm not mad at you for it. I just wish you could've heard me say what I said differently..when I wasn't feeling so upset. That's why I'm here, sunshine. To explain. Explain why you heard me call you Kate. It's complicated and, there's a long story behind it, but you have to know, I would never say something like that to you or to Tad, even if I felt upset, if it wasn't completely true. I'm a terrible liar, Kathy. And I couldn't lie to Tad, or you even if I wanted. Right now though, now that it's the right time, all I want to do is try and start telling you the truth. If you'll let me." (OOC: aw, apology accepted, I hope you're cool with this though, if not let me know!)

Kathy had ignored Opal’s attempts at trying to talk to her, she didn’t want to talk to anybody because everything that was going on felt confusing and scary. When Opal gently tried to touch her shoulder Kathy moved away and protested against it. She wanted her mommy or Aunt Julia and neither of them were going to come. At the sound of Dixie’s voice speaking quietly to Opal, she found herself becoming still until she was on the floor beside her.
At first she ignored Dixie’s approach, even when she too tried tapping her on the shoulder. It was only when Tad’s name was mentioned did she look up before glancing back down again quickly. She was glad to learn he was going to be okay, that all he had to do was wake up, but there was still so much more eating away at her. What had Dixie meant by her being Kate?
“But I don’t understand,” she whispered with a shake of her head as Dixie tried to explain to her what had happened. “If you weren’t lying, why did you call me Kate? I... I’m just Kathy... right? Aunt Julia and mommy called me Kathy since I was really little.” For a moment Kathy sat still as Dixie offered to tell her the truth if she’d let her and slowly she began to nod, wanting to know everything, to find out if it was true, if she was really their little girl Kate.
“I want to know,” she admitted moving to get comfortable so she could see Dixie properly. “I want to know, please, can you tell me?” Slowly she lifted her hand and brought it over to take Dixie’s free one in hers, Kathy’s eyes never leaving her mothers as she waited to understand and hear the whole story. OOC: PERFECTLY KOOL WITH IT! I’m loving every second!!!!!! <3 =D

Relieved Kathy even managed to acknowledge her presence with everything going on, Dixie listened closely trying to decide how to best handle the delicate conversation about to take place. Feeling more at ease when Kathy took her hand, taking a deep breath she nodded before just launching right on in. "Kathy. Six years ago, I found out Tad and I were gonna have a baby together, a little girl. I was so happy, but at the same time I was scared, scared of what could happen. See, a lot of doctors in Pine Valley had told me it wasn't safe for me to have a baby. That one or or even both of us could get really sick, that we could even wind up with the angels. But, rather than just thinking of all the risks, I thought about what my heart wanted. And, I wanted this baby for me and for Tad. I knew how happy she would make us, and I was prepared to do whatever I had to to keep her and I safe and healthy, and at the same time, keep Tad and our family from feeling worried or scared. So to do that, I left Pine Valley. I went to Europe to a special hospital where me and my baby would be safe until she was ready to be born. When I was there, I met a doctor who I thought would be able to help us. I was wrong though because, the doctor didn't do his job. He didn't care for me or my baby, when I needed him to the most. Right after I wrote Tad to tell him about the baby, and that I wanted to come home and be with him after she was born, I got into a car acccident. I was hurt really badly and, like with Tad now, I had to sleep for a long time. It took me a long time to wake up, and when I did, I found out that my baby survived, that she was strong and healthy and gonna be just fine. But my doctor didn't say that I would be. He told me that I was gonna go to heaven, and that once I got there, Tad would miss me. And be too sad to be a good father to our little girl. The doctor said I wouldn't have to worry about my daughter anymore, He said all these things that weren't true, knowing that I was hurt and scared enough to believe whatever he said. And I did. For one brief terrible moment, I believed what he was saying to me. And because of it, the next time that I woke up...my baby was gone. My little girl, Kate..was gone." Fighting back tears rehashing the whole ugly nightmare, Dixie shut her eyes and took a deep breath, still holding onto Kathy's hand. "Ever since I got out of the hospital all I've done and all I've thought about is, finding my daughter and putting her in her daddy's arms. Kathy it's all I've wanted for such a long time, but something I never expected would happen. The doctor that took Kate from me, gave her to another family and for years Tad and I have tried to track them down. But each time we'd get a clue or a lead, it wouldn't lead us to her. Tad and I had just about given up hope of ever finding her. Until about two years ago...at Christmas. That year he and I, we both wished on a star...our star, that our daughter would find her way back to us. And that Christmas...she did. Only trouble was, it took Tad and I a long time to figure out the truth. You though, you knew before any of us. You knew the day you called Tad your daddy. I know everyone said that, you were wrong to call him that, that you made a mistake. But you didn't! Sweetheart, you were right all along!" Blinking back tears Dixie squeezed Kathy's hand a little tighter before nervously letting go. Given the bomb she was about to drop she wanted to give her girl space and a chance to process it all. "Kathy, Tad is your real daddy. And, I...I'm your real mom.", Dixie said, a mix of love and worry in her eyes. She didn't know how Kathy was gonna take this bombshell and knew she had to prep for any and every reaction she'd have. (OOC:me too! )

Kathy was silent throughout most of what she was being told, listening intently to Dixie and the story. It was a little confusing to keep up with but she managed to get the gist of it all as the story continued. Worry and sadness swept over her as they reached the part about the car accident and when Dixie had to give up her baby girl, and she squeezed her hand tightly. When it came to the part about trying to find their daughter and the star and Christmas, Kathy leaned in with eager eyes wanting to know more on how it was going to end, but as it did it slowly dawned on her.
“I... I did?” she whispered weakly feeling Dixie’s tight squeeze on her hand before it was released. As the truth came out, retold to her with the whole story behind it, Kathy smiled nervously for a moment before glancing at the floor to think it more over. She’d thought her mom and dad had been Linda and Jim, and then she’d been told that her Julia was her Aunt, but something had always felt missing no matter how much she loved them.
“You’re really my mommy and daddy?” she asked quietly still trying to process the whole thing. “Did Aunt Julia know? Is that why she told me not to call Tad daddy...? She knew like the bad doctor...” Tears sprang up at the thought of this, afraid to find out the truth. Trembling now, Kathy brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly before she jumped up and into Dixie’s arms. OOC: Your posts are so long and beautiful and mine are so short, I'm really sorry!!

When Kathy asked her for confirmation, tears sprang to Dixie's eyes and she happily nodded. "Yeah baby, we are." Then though when her face fell and she assumed the worst about Julia, heartbroken and wishing she'd explained things more clearly, Dixie shook her head. "Oh no. Kathy, no! That's...that's not what happened." Taken aback, she held Kathy as close as she could. "Sunshine your Aunt Julia's nothing at all like the bad doctor, alright? She thought that your first mom and dad were your real parents. She believed that with all her heart and that's why she took care of you. But right before Jesse and Angie's wedding, somehow, I'm not quite sure how, she figured everything out. And she was waiting for the right time to tell Tad, and me, and you. She told me when she called me in to see her in her room earlier. And after I found out, Aidan, and Joe and Jesse all worked together to double check things. That's why Aidan asked to see me earlier, baby. He showed me proof." Pulling back a bit, Dixie smoothed Kathy's hair and locked eyes with her. "Kathy you have to know though..that Tad and I didn't give you away..you were taken from us. And he and I have loved you and missed you and worried about you ever since. We were never ever gonna stop looking for you. It's just..the truth about everything took a long time to come out. But, I am so grateful that, until it did..you were with such wonderful good people that loved you. I don't know what I would've done if that hadn't happened.", she admitted, near tears but trying her best to hide it. Not wanting to upset or confuse Kathy.

Kathy squeezed tight to Dixie, her arms around her as she listened to what she was being told and corrected about Julia. She was relieved to know that her Aunt hadn’t kept her from her real parents, but instead had only found out recently. She bit her lip, upset that she’d thought her Aunt would do something like that in the first place and when she was pulled back she looked up at Dixie.
“There’s proof?” she whispered, voice slightly strained from having been crying. Listening silently to Dixie tell her about Tad and her was all new to her. She would never have guessed there were people out there who missed her and looked for her. “But you found me so you and Tad don’t have to look anymore. The bad doctor took me, right? And he’s gone away now.” She placed a hand under her chin for a moment before smiling at what Dixie had to say about who she’d been with.
“I loved them too,” she expressed with a nod before becoming sad in thought. She stayed silent for a moment, just thinking about everything that had been told to her and that had happened until something came to her and she glanced back up. “Does this mean I come to live with you?”

"Yes he is, Kathy. He's gone and is never gonna keep us apart again. I promise.", Dixie assured. Still thanking her lucky stars that in the end Greg Madden didn't succeed with his plan. In spite of everything she was with her daughter right now. Misting up she nodded happily at her question.
"Well..I know I'd love it to mean that. So would Tad. I know it would take some adjusting but, I think the three of us could make it work. And you know, at our house there's a guest bedroom upstairs with a window right out into the backyard. You look out it and right there are all these trees and flowers, and you can see the sun come up in the morning and all the stars when they come out at night. It's the room with the best view in the whole house but, Tad and I haven't gotten around to really decorating it yet. I bet though if you came to stay with us, we'd be able to work on it together and make it look perfect. Are you interested?", Dixie asked. Practically dreaming of the day she'd finally be able to decorate her daughter's room, shop with her for clothes, so many other little things she thought she'd never be able to do, but would have the chance to now.

“I would have to get all my stuff,” Kathy admitted, trying to think where it all was at Wildwind. For a moment she paused, listening to Dixie talk about the house she would move in to. When the guest room was mentioned she brightened a little at the idea of it and all it had. “There is? Do... do you think I could sleep in there? I could decorate it with you.” She nodded when asked if she was interested in helping, a smile spreading before she got a thought.
“Is it okay to call you mommy?” she asked nervously, this being completely new to her. OOC: My inner Kathy was battling what she said because it sounded so much like DN’s Kathy when she met Dixie compared to AG’s Kathy when she found out Tad was her dad in the show, but I went for it anyway. Also it's really short I'm sorry!!!!!!

Smiling softly at Kathy's admission, Dixie nodded. "It's okay..we can help with that. We've got the technology.", she chuckled. "I think it'd be a perfect spot for you to sleep and to decorate. We can paint it whatever color you like and make room for every stuffed animal ya got. Plus, the room's not far from mine and Tad's so if you had a bad dream or anything, we'd just be across the hall from you.", she assured. Hearing Kathy's next question, Dixie's heart skipped way too many beats and she started welling up, again. But this time her tears were ones of joy and nothing but, and she showed it with a smile and a nod. "I'd love that more than anything, Kathy. I..I would.", she sniffled. As thrilled as she was to be having this moment, her heart ached that Tad wasn't here to share it. But pushing that hurt down though to be in the moment though, she wiped her eyes. "C'mere.", she requested, and hugged Kathy close before kissing the top of her head. "I love you so much, sunshine. I love you with my whole heart."

“Technology cant move things!” Kathy giggled and shook her head. “Trucks and cars and people can move things. But I can help move all my things.” She nodded as Dixie went on about the room and what they could do with it for decorating and sleep location. “Can we paint it pink? I want to put all my stuffed animals in there so they can get used to it. Aunt Julia had my room not far from hers so when I got scared I went and slept with her too. One time me and Jamie fought off a monster with a gazillion eyes!” Beaming at the memory the smile only faltered a little when Dixie started to answer her next question.
“I really can?” she brightened, pleased this was an okay thing for her to do. “Why are you sad?” She saw the tears in Dixie’s eyes and got worried until they were wiped away and she was being asked to go to her. “Okay.” She was in Dixie’s arms in a second, squeezing her tight and listening to her speak and the sound of her mothers heart.
“I love you too mommy,” she whispered in return and gave her an extra squeeze. For the longest time she remained in Dixie’s arm until at last she pulled back and looked up at her with worry. “Is... is...Ta - ” She cut herself off, about to say Tad and shook her head to clear it a little before trying again. “Is daddy going to be okay? Will he wake up soon?” OOC: YAY! That’s good, I’m glad! I love the sig! It’s so adorable <333 and perfectly fitting for spring!

When Kathy giggled at her comment and shook her head, Dixie couldn't help but laugh out loud. "We'll help too, baby. Don't worry." Hearing her requests about the room, along with the story about Jamie and Julia, she smiled softly. Missing Julia and even Jamie now that he was in Africa. "A gazillion? My goodness! Well, if anyone could fight something like that off it'd be the two of you."
Dixie wished she'd held back on the crying after seeing Kathy's concerned look, but when the girl returned the hug and said those three little words, the tears kept falling. Continuing when Kathy asked about Tad, struggling with what to call him at first. "Sunshine I..I don't know when he's gonna wake up.", she sighed sadly. But knew she had to reassure Kathy and herself somehow that he would. "But listen. You and me and so many other people here love your daddy more than anything. And I don't doubt all that love's gonna be enough to bring him back, same way it brought you back." Smiling softly she wiped a quick tear before thumbing away one on Kathy's face. "We just gotta keep the faith, okay? You and I, we'll get through this together." Putting out two fingers on her right hand, Dixie reached for Kathy's left hand and helped her make the same gesture. "Together...", she smiled, putting out two more fingers to intertwine. "Forever. Your dad and I made this promise to eachother a long, long time ago. No matter what's happened to us, even when we get separated we always find our way back somehow. This time, won't be any different. He'll find his way back, baby. Especially now that he's got both of us waiting on him. I know it."
