Kathy had agreed to go get her moms purse when asked, and got up off the chair, heading out of the room slowly. Once she was out the front door and to the car waiting, she got in the back and searched around for any sign of it. Under the seat she found it and carefully picked it up, bringing it back inside after a few minutes. She was lost in thought about spending time with two brothers that she didn’t remember and what they could do while hanging out, but as she got closer to the doors of the living room, she heard the conversation inside and stopped.
She could hear the upset in her mom’s voice, could sense the tears, even though she only listening through the half closed doors. She didn’t like what she was hearing, about how Dixie felt she deserved all these things. Wanting to go in and hug her and tell her it wasn’t fair she was upset, Kathy instead went over to the stairs and took a seat down putting the purse on the step below her.
“Aunt Julia, I wish you could help me make mommy better, and bring daddy back,” she whispered, folding her hands together in prayer. “I don’t want her to be sad. I miss you.” Closing her eyes she fought back tears and remained quietly where she was, hearing J.R. and Dixie’s voice drifting through the doors. OOC: I still didn't want to interrupt them, but I did wanna throw Kathy back in. Hope this is okay.

"You don't know that..." JR replied when Dixie said it was no use. "If Tad had just stayed and fought them, he'd be here, and he'd win too...what they're doing has to be illegal!"
After JR hugged her, he could feel his mother pulling away. "You don't have to be sorry, I want to comfort you, or at least do my best too, you've been through a lot lately too. "
JR listened as Dixie explained the distance that had been between her and Tad since the last time he came back and how she blamed herself for most of the problems. Then she said that she thought she deserved it, and that though it was unfair to everyone else in Tad's life it wasn't unfair to her.
"Mom, you're wrong" JR told her insistently. "This is just as unfair to you as it is to the kids. You don't deserve to have your husband forced away from you again. He should be here with you, especially now when you're recovering. I mean you can barely get around right now, you're on crutches and you're supposed to be taking care of Kathy and the twins all by yourself. He should be here helping, and taking care of you...."
JR stopped for a minute thinking over her situation. It really did bother him to think of her all alone with the kids with her injuries. It would only put more stress on her body having to deal with all of that, plus who did she really have to talk to at the house, to vent her frustrations to with Tad gone? She needed help, someone to take her of her too, and just some support from people who loved her.
"Why don't you and the kids move in here for awhile? " He suggested to her. "We've obviously got plenty of room, the will be of some help, you'll be able to rest up more....and I know I'm a pretty poor replacement for Tad, but you can have me to help"

Looking up skeptically when J.R told her she was wrong, when he mentioned what Tad should be doing for her, everything she was dealing with without him, fresh tears filled her eyes and her heart broke all over again. With Tad everything felt safe, felt right. And she'd lived enough without him to know how painful and lonely it could be. The thought of going back to their house tonight without him, made her wish she wouldn't have to go back to it at all. And she knew if she and her kids were healthy and up to it, she'd probably drive them all down to Pigeon Hollow tonight, for the calm and the escape of it all.
She didn't have that option though. She'd have to stay for her kids and keep their house a home. Right now though she just didn't know how.
"What? What is it?", Dixie asked as J.R paused, then made her a surprising offer. She was tempted by it but didn't feel right accepting. "Oh, honey.", she sighed, giving him a soft smile. "I love you so much for offering, I appreciate it so much. But, I can't do that to you.", she said, her pride and need to stand on her own two feet kicking into a higher gear. "I mean, what about you and Marissa? If you guys are trying to make a go of things, you don't need all of us around. Besides I feel like, Kathy and the twins need to be at home, in their own beds. If that changes for them they'll know things aren't right. Whatever chances we have of getting back to something resembling normal, will be gone.", she weakly insisted. But had a feeling looking at her son this debate wasn't finished.

"You can't do what to me? Let me have my family close by so that I don't have to worry about them? Let me get to see my mother, and siblings every day? Let me get close to Kathy again so that even if she doesnt remember that I'm her brother, maybe she can start to feel that way? And the twins too...I've barely been there for them, I've been so wrapped up in everything, I haven't been the brother...or the son that I should have. " JR told her honestly. "And Marissa loves you guys. She's agreed to stay with me while she recovers too...and hopefully she'll stay longer, but this house is plenty big enough that if we need some time alone, we can find a spot for that. And AJ would love seeing you guys more often"
JR sighed lightly, he knew his mother's intentions of keeping things the same for the kids were good, trying to keep them in the routine, but in his heart he knew it wouldn't matter. "You think if they arent at home in their beds that they'll know that things aren't right? Well Mom...they arent right. Their father isn't here with them like he should be. They know that, so they already know its not right...but maybe it's easier if they're on a little vacation to their brother's house instead of waiting at home for their Dad to come through that door like he has every other time. You guys could go back there, when he's back and your whole family is there to go home with you. "

As J.R came at her with reasons for her to stay, damn good reasons at that, Dixie heard the pain and guilt in his voice and her heart broke a little. When he said he hadn't been the son he should've, she was set to correct him but instead listened to the rest of what he had to say. And when he tugged at her heartstrings about A.J, she lightly chuckled and shook her head. He knew just what to say to make her turn to mush, but she wasn't going to crumble. Until he corrected her about Kathy and the twins. That did it. Tearing up again, lowering her head, she took a deep breath before releasing it. Taking a minute to weigh her options, realizing she didn't really have an option, looking up Dixie gave J.R a soft smile and a nod. "You're right. Okay? You're right.", she admitted, reaching over for a hug. Holding him tightly, she sniffled, then spoke. "Except for one thing. You've been a wonderful son. You always have been.", she corrected as more tears fell. "Thank God I didn't lose you. Thank God."

"Of course I'm right" JR laughed lightly as he pulled her into another hug as she reached over to him. His smile fell as she told him that he'd always been a wonderful son. "We both know that's not true. I think I've had more bad moments as a son than good ones. " He said truthfully, knowing he had messed up so many times before in the past.
"You said you thought you deserved what was happening now with Tad being gone. Well I still feel like I would've deserved for the cancer to get me...the only thing I can see as reason I'm still here, and its in remission is that AJ didn't deserve to go through that pain. But I'm thankful to be here, and to have another chance at trying to be a better father, and son, and brother"

Lightly laughing through her tears as more of them fell, when J.R tried to deny what she was saying Dixie shook her head, refusing to accept that. As far as she was concerned the bad didn't matter when she was blessed enough to have her son back, in every way that counted. "No...no.", Shaking her head she pulled back at his comments that she couldn't agree with in a million years. "J.R please don't say that to me. Don't say that to me ever again.", Dixie commanded. All she could think of was seeing J.R in the hospital barely hanging on. That visual coupled with his saying he would've deserved dying from the cancer, shook her to the core.
"Of course, A.J didn't deserve to lose you. That's a given. But..nothing you did, nothing you've ever done would've made you undeserving of a future. I know I can't change how you feel but, please. You should never feel like that. Never.", she said firmly, having felt similarly in the past and not wanting any of her kids experiencing that.
"I know too many times when I was searching for Kate, a part of me wished that after my last surgery, I hadn't woken up. I knew with each passing day I was betraying my family, that I was failing your sister. It was hell waking up each day knowing that. But I did. Because like you said, there's a reason for things. There's a reason for everything. If you feel the main reason you're here today is your son, I'm grateful for that. I'm so grateful A.J kept you fighting. But there's other reasons you're here, honey. Even ones you don't know or see right now." she said. Hoping J.R knew he had plenty of reason to still be here. But his listing the reasons he was thankful did help assure her of that.
"Well, I'm just as thankful. In spite of what's happened to Tad. I know things could be so much worse right now. Between what happened to Kathy in the accident, and to you.", she sighed. "God when I saw you in that hospital bed, I can't remember the last time I felt so scared. As much as I hoped and prayed you'd be alright, for a few horrible moments I didn't know you would be. The doctors were all saying we should, be prepared. I..I thought I was going to lose you. And all I could think about was the last time we'd talked. How angry and disappointed you were with me, how we fought.", she said guiltily. The whole time J.R had been hospitalized the two of them in her apartment kept coming back to her. It still scared her to think if something had happened to him when she was in surgery, he could've died with that being the last time they spoke. "If something had happened, if I hadn't had the chance to..", trailing off Dixie teared up before somewhat getting her composure back. "I'm just so glad that you're alright."

JR shook his head when his mother tried to deny that he had done anything to be undeserving of a future. "We both know that's not true" He told her truthfully, knowing he had made his share of colossal mistakes in life. He had gotten lucky, and he really did believe that his son was why fate decided not to give him what he deserved. Hell, maybe that's what saved his own father so many times in the past, his children's own innocence.
JR did agree with her and give a nod as she said that he had more reasons besides his son to be here. "I know...I have more to be thankful for" He admitted. He knew Marissa had been another reason he had fought in the hospital, wanting to start a life with her. He also had other family members, who though he may have made mistakes with, he wasn't quite ready to leave yet.
"I'm sorry that we fought too...to be honest I wasn't quite sure how you'd be treating me today after the last time we really had a talk together" He said knowing he had been deep in his drinking then. "I think you were about as disappointed in me as I was in you. " He saw her tear up at the thought of losing him and took her hand and gave it a light squeeze. "You didnt lose me...I'm going to be alright, we're figthers"
JR looked towards the door as his mother mentioned what happened to Kathy in the accident. "Kathy is she...is she getting any better? Do they think she's going to start remembering, or we just have to kind of re-tell her everything and move on?" He asked, wondering how serious his sister's condition was, and not wanting to have asked earlier with her in the room (but unaware that she was right outside).

Reflecting on her and J.R's conversation at the house, when he told her he wasn't sure how she'd be treating him today because of it, Dixie softly sighed. "You had every reason to be disappointed in me. And I wouldn't have blamed you if you were still angry about what happened. If I could you know I'd go back and change it, everything that made you think the bottle was all you had left.", she said apologetically as he squeezed her hand, smiling a bit at his words. "Yeah we are. Let's just keep from fighting each other, okay?", she lightly laughed. When J.R looked back to the door, Dixie immediately wondered about Kathy. She'd sent her to retrieve the purse what felt like ages ago, and worry about what she was doing crept into her mind, then found its way to her eyes at J.R's question.
"Compared to how she was at PVH, she's...better. After I got out of surgery and saw her she just looked so fragile, so scared. Us spending time with her, explaining the situation with Julia and us, helped. We were counting on getting her home and easing back into that routine though, so, everything with Tad was the last thing she needed.", she said bitterly before carrying on. "But, I've spoken with Joe, her pediatrician, even a child therapist I've gotten to know at the hospital. They told me that her memory will come back but it's a process. How long it'll take, no one's exactly sure, but the doctor's are optimistic. They say she's stronger than she looks and that kids tend to have faster recovery times with things like this than adults. They're more curious, more willing to trust and accept things. We told her the basics about her living situation, her family. She has a grasp there, but we can't just feed her facts and expect things to suddenly click. They said she'll have questions, and the best thing we can do is answer her honestly but simply. And if a piece of a memory comes back we have to just, encourage it. Fill in the gaps, show her photo albums or describe a smaller thing that happened at that time and see if it triggers anything more. We also just have to keep things familiar, secure. It'll be easier for her to recover someplace that she knows, where she's comfortable.", she said as she reached for her crutches, anxious about where her little girl had gotten to.

Kathy had brought her legs up as she sat on the third step while she listened to her mom and brother talk in the next room, her head rested against her knees. She knew she’d been trying hard to remember what things were like before the accident, when she knew Tad and Dixie were her mom, when she’d first come to live in the Martin’s house, but it was all still new and frightening. And now the things she was finding out about one of her big brothers and how he’d been sick was making her wish all the more that she could remember to make him feel better.
Wiping at her eyes she glanced up when she heard the conversation start on her and quickly stood up, her hand going to the railing as she glanced towards the doors her family was behind. As Dixie spoke about her condition, she mentioned Tad and Kathy felt herself cringe. She wanted him to be there when she was getting better, not go away, he was one of the constant things she’d had while she’d been living with Julia. The way it sounded as Dixie was putting it made Kathy feel like it wouldn’t be long before she remembered her life again but it also still felt out of grasp.
“What if I don’t remember,” she whispered and glanced up towards the ceiling, almost wanting a sign from Julia. There was the sound of movement in the next room that had Kathy gathering up the purse quickly and going down the three steps to stand at the door, almost ready to go in, but she hesitated and worried that having eavesdropped on their conversation would be wrong. Frozen in place she wanted to run out of fear of doing something bad, but another part of her wouldn’t allow it, so she found herself remaining in the hall holding on to Dixie’s purse tightly.

Despite J.R's wishes, once she was upright on her crutches Dixie made her way over to the closed door of the living room, set to open it and search for Kathy, knowing it didn't take that long to retrieve a purse. While she was glad she and J.R had the time and space to talk, now she had to make sure her little girl was alright. Luckily after opening the door, she didn't have to go too far to find her. "Hey, look who I found.", she smiled, but was concerned that Kathy was tightly gripping her purse, and had watery, almost fearful eyes. "Kathy, honey?" Feeling nervous, wondering if something had scared Kathy when she was outside or if she'd overheard her crying to J.R, Dixie figured now was as good a time as any to get answers. Make sure her daughter was alright before they called it a night. Maneuvering towards the nearby staircase, Dixie rested her hands on the tops of her crutches, and using them as a brace slowly lowered herself to sit on one of the steps. Then patted the empty space beside her. "Here sweetie, come sit by me.", she encouraged, wanting her daughter close and pretty sure Kathy felt similarly. "How you doing, huh? You were out here for awhile, I was starting to get worried."

Kathy still clutched the purse tight, even as the doors swung open and her mom stood before her on crutches. The urge to run was niggling inside her, but as her mom moved towards the staircase her eyes followed her until she was seated. Giving J.R. a glance for a moment, she decided to go over to where her mom had seated herself. When the spot was patted she went and sat down, looking up at her mom when she spoke.
“I’m okay,” she finally answered after a few moments of hesitation. She wasn’t sure how she could tell the truth without getting in trouble; she’d never really eavesdropped before on Julia, so doing it now felt strange. “I found your purse and then.... and then I...” Her eyes travelled to the door of the Chandler Mansion for a moment before she shrugged weakly. “I wanted to rest so I came in here and fell asleep on the stairs.” It was a lie but she wasn’t sure how her mom would take it if she told her the truth and suddenly afraid that she was upset Kathy moved forward and wrapped her arms around her tight.
“I’m sorry, mommy,” she whispered, clinging to her.

"Yeah?", Dixie gently questioned. She could tell just looking at Kathy she was worked up about something, and who could blame her given everything that had happened. "And then what, baby?", she coaxed, following Kathy's eyes as they looked to the door and then back at her. When she told her she was tired and fell asleep on the steps, Dixie lightly laughed. "On the stairs? Sweetie there's a big couch and two arm chairs in the other room that are a whole lot comfier. If you were getting tired you should've just told me!" Taken aback a bit at Kathy's tight hug, but welcoming it, Dixie held her snugly, kissing the top of her head. "Shh, it's okay. It's okay. Everything's gonna be just fine, Kathy. I promise you that.", she assured before pulling back. Brushing Kathy's hair away from her forehead, she reached for her purse and the cream inside of it, then gently rubbed some on Kathy's scratch with her thumb. "You didn't think you'd let me forget to do this, did ya?", she winked, applying the last of the cream. "And listen, there's something I have to ask you. J.R and I were talking and, he asked me if it'd be alright if you and me and Nolan and Tara, stay here at the mansion for awhile with him. He thinks it might get a little lonely for us back at our house and since we're both still trying to get better, it'd be good if he was around to help us out. But, I wanted to make sure that you were okay with it first. 'Cause there's no way I'd stay in a big old house like this without you here to make it fun." Smiling mischievously, Dixie looked on closely trying to figure out if Kathy was okay with the plan.

“But I thought I heard you talking to JR and I didn’t want to interrupt,” Kathy told her mom timidly. “I just fell asleep on the stairs.” She shrugged once more and wrapped her arms tighter around her mom as she was kissed on the top of her head. When her mom pulled back, she did too, watching her for a moment as she went into her purse and pulled out the cream. As soon it was applied to her forehead she smiled a little.
“Mommy’s don’t forget anything,” she assured quietly as well, though felt slightly guilty having been the daughter who had forgotten everything. At the mention of their being something her mom wanted to ask, she went silent and listened intently to what she had to say. The suggestion of staying at the Mansion had her glancing up the stairs before back again and then slowly shrugging. She didn’t mind the idea, she’d been here before but never over night (or as far as she remembered).
“Okay,” she finally answered after some time. “Does this mean Tad will come to stay here when he gets back too?” She paused in thought, again her eyes travelled towards the stairs. “Does this place get scary at night? Will we have a room together?” Most of the time through the night since the accident she’d gotten up and requested both her parents to come stay with her; either because she was sad, or frightened of being in a unfamiliar (to an extent) place still. “What about Amanda Panda and our things? She gets scared at night too. Can we get them?”

"Yeah you got that right.", Dixie quipped, but bit her lip realizing Kathy's comment wasn't all that lighthearted given what she'd been through. Watching her closely, she tried to gauge how she'd feel about the move, and was relieved when she said it was okay. But teared up when Tad was mentioned. "Well no, honey. When your daddy gets back you and me and the twins will go back to our house with him.", she answered. Wishing she could say for sure when that would happen.
When Kathy peppered her with questions about the move, asking how scary Chez Chandler was, Dixie made sure to keep her personal feelings about the mansion to herself. She'd had some scary times here through the years but would be damned if her daughter did as well. "No sweetie, I mean look at J.R and A.J. They stay here every night and they're not scared. I promise nothing's gonna frighten you here. Not if I can help it.", she promised, smiling reassuringly when Kathy asked if they could room together. She'd expected this given the routine they'd settled into at the hospital and at the house. And welcomed it especially with Tad gone. "If that's what you want, then that's what we'll do. I just hope my snoring won't bug you too much.", she winked. "Well, I talked to Opal's driver who brought us here and told him all about Amanda Panda, and your chicken, and your Bullwinkle nightlight. And he said he'd go back to the house, get all those things and drop them off here so you'll have them tonight. Then tomorrow we'll go over with the twins and get anything else we need. But don't worry, okay. Amanda won't be scared tonight and neither will you." she smiled. "Now, give me one of those amazing hugs of yours, okay? 'Cause I really need one."
