Having just left the airport to see her husband off yet again, Angie was at a complete loss of what to do next. For the past couple of weeks Jesse had been back and forth to New York and Washington to help with some drug case. At first Angie was okay with it because he was only gone for a few days at a time and back for weeks, but then things changed drastically when it was discovered that the person they were searching for now had an army of guys doing his bidding. Not only that but they were trying to track the guys wrong doing on the border which was way in Mexico! Not only did this tick Angie off because it was constantly taking her husband away from her and the kids, it scared her because from what Jesse could share with her, these guys were capable of doing just about anything and doing it with no remorse. Jesse tried to ease her worries as much as he could, but as she told him then and yet again just a few minutes ago, there was nothing that could be done until he was home. Safe, sound and grounded to stay for the remainder of their lives. “I’ll never understand why I agreed to let him go back to the damn force,” she mumbled, rolling to a stop light.
“Momma… Bad word,” Ari reminded, acknowledging her presence as she in the backseat fiddling with her ‘Princess and The Frog Leap-Pad’, her daddy bought her.
“Sorry baby girl,” Angie replied, looking up at her through the rearview mirror.
Lowering her “Ipad” and looking up, Jocelyn Ari tilted her head to the side. “Where we going?”
“Not really sure, peanut. Want to grab something to eat and maybe head to the park?”
Ari thought about it for a minute before shrugging. “Okay,” she mumbled, before turning her attention back to her “Ipad”.
A little put off by her daughter’s bland reply, Angie gave her profile a questioning look just before the light turned green and she headed on. “Are you okay?”
“… … I don’t get to play with Tara and Nolan no more and I don’t see Coby and Stewey and I like them,” she blurted out. She knew Colton and Stuart’s name, but she insisted on calling them Coby and Stewey. “Why momma?” She asked.
Stunned wasn’t the word for what Angie as. Her daughter’s words had not only caught off guard but they had kind of stabbed her a bit. “Momma’s been busy. You know? With daddy being here and then not being here, taking care of you and your brothers, and the hospital. Mommy hasn’t had time or energy,” she explained, though she wasn’t sure if her daughter would believe her. It was almost as if the girl had picked up on Jesse’s interrogating ways.
“Oh… I guess,” she mumbled, before totally checking out.
“Okay,” Angie mumbled too, feeling a bit saddened.
Truth was they hadn’t hung out with the ladies and babies in a while. Hell it felt like years since they had a sit down and chat session. And though nobody had called her about anything really, she hadn’t made an effort either and for that she felt bad. “Honey, what if I promise to set up something?” Angie asked after a few minutes of silence.
“Like what? Will Adrian be there too?”
“Yes ma’am. I’ll make sure we do it on a weekend. And what… Let me figure something out, okay?”
“Okay,” this time when Ari looked up and replied there was a huge smile on her face and gleam of hope in her eyes.
Angie hadn’t once thought Ari was affected by the fact that she hadn’t seen some of favorite people in the world. She never once said anything or let on about it. But then again maybe she had, just Angie hadn’t noticed because of the change that was going on around the house and the hospital. But she knew now and she also knew more than anything she needed to take a break from work and hang with friends and family more. Maybe a nice summer vacation, she thought. Yea, that’s what she would do. Take the family away and have some quality time, bond and celebrate the fact that this year would be the year Jocelyn started Pre-K and Mr. Adrian would be heading to the 2nd grade. And the friends maybe plan a huge spa/shopping/girls weekend away from home. Either way something had to be done.
Anyway, after stopping and grabbing something to eat, Angie and her baby girl headed to the park. Glad that this morning she chose to dress comfortably, jeans, t-shirt and tennis, Angie tucked her keys and phone away and chased her daughter to the swings and the fun began. “Loser, loser!” Ari teased.
“Losers daughter,” Angie teased back.
“Hey!” Ari yelped before chasing her momma.
