History:
Leo never knew of a family other than his mother growing up. Vanessa told him he was the product of an affair she had with a married French vineyard owner who refused to leave his wife.
When Leo arrived in Pine Valley he met his mother’s newest rich husband, Palmer Cortlandt, who hired him as vice president of Cortlandt Electronics. Leo met Greenlee and the two decided to get together to try to make the object of their affections jealous. The two slowly grew from close friends, to having sexual chemistry to finally admitting they had fallen in love with each other. Leo proposed to Greenlee and had a prenuptial agreement drawn up so that no one would think he was after her money. Greenlee’s father managed to split up the couple by dredging up a woman from Leo’s past who claimed that he had used the same trick on her.
Shortly after, Brooke English convinced Leo to become involved with her dying daughter Laura to try to give her some final happiness and a reason to fight for her life. Leo initially refused but he became closer to Leo, and in caring for her as a friend, agreed to marry her. Laura received a heart transplant and recovered, and Leo realized he couldn’t stay with her when his real love was for Greenlee. Leo divorced Laura and married Greenlee.
Vanessa became the downfall of Leo’s life. It was revealed that she had been a drug lord named “proteus” and she also had a split personality, causing her to be hospitalized. Vanessa went into a coma and woke up as the calm, sweet loving mother Leo never had. Once in federal custody however, she reverted back to her former personality. She demanded that Leo give up his family and move with her to Paris. Vanessa kidnapped Greenlee and took her to Miller falls, ordering Leo to find and give her the diamonds (of the Proteus treasure) before she’d release Greenlee. When she still refused to let Greenlee go, Leo dropped the jewels into the falls. In protecting Greenlee from Vanessa for good (knowing she still planned to kill her) Leo went over the falls with his mother.
He was presumed dead on October 17, 2002 after a fall over Miller Falls. No one in Pine Valley has seen or heard from him since…until now.
When Leo woke up after the fall, he had no idea where he was or who he was. He was miles away from Pine Valley, having traveled a long ways down the River. He's spent the past 6 1/2 years searching to find who he was, traveling around different towns, hoping for some recollection from the past. His first memory came as someone in a bar mentioned the town Pine Valley. There was a familiarity about that name, something drew him back.
