Cecily was in her office at St. Michael’s wrapping up work as a Patient Advocate. Since she’s pregnant, Cecily’s been taking it easy, not stressing out or staying up late at night finishing up cases. Never in her life did she expect to be pregnant after having Nicholas and Phillip. It was unexpected and out of nowhere but the only thing that mattered was Cecily and her husband Charlie having another child. Neither she or Charlie haven’t told anyone but Tara and Jeff. When the time is right, they’ll tell everyone the good news.
Earlier, Cecily called Charlie to pick her up, once he’s done with work at his PI business. She then cleaned her office, put everything back where they were, grabbed her purse and walked out of her office, locking the door. She felt thirsty so Cecily went to a room to get a cup of water from the water cooler. Once she did, Cecily took a seat next to a man, who she didn’t notice at first but then looking at him, it was JR Chandler, Dixie’s son. The one that Dixie told her about when she visited Cecily months ago.
“Uh…excuse me….are you JR Chandler? I’m Cecily, Cecily Davidson Brent. Me and your mother Dixie are tight and close friends, mostly like sisters. It’s nice to meet you” she said to the young man but Cecily noticed that something was wrong with him. JR looked sick, but she decided not mentioning it.

JR had just finished with a round of chemo and radiation therapy. They both fell on the same day today and he was feeling absolutely wiped out from it. Marissa had one of her classes and he had insisted she go to it that he would be fine. He knew he probably should have called Tad or Dixie to go with him, or at least meet him afterwards but instead he had gone alone. Now he was already starting to feel the side effects of the treatment and just needed to rest a bit before he could go home. He went over to get some water and sat down in one of the nearby chairs. His head was hanging down as he stared at the water, wondering if it would just make him feel more nauseus or if it would help. He couldnt help but doubt again whether this was all worth it.
He heard his name spoken by the woman who had sat down next to him. He looked up, surprised for a moment not sure who she was until she explained. She remembered her mother and Tad talking about Charlie and Cecily. "Oh, yes, I'm JR. It's nice to meet you too" He wondered if being at the hospital if she was visiting someone or feeling sick herself, but she looked healthy enough from what he could see. "I hope no one in your family has been admitted here or anything?" He said not wanting to keep her if she was off to see someone.

When JR said to Cecily that he hoped his hasn’t been admitted, she shook here head. “Oh no, I work here at St. Michael’s Hospital as a Patient Advocate, this isn’t my first time as one. When I was living in Silicon Valley, California, that’s when I worked as a Patient Advocate for the very first time. Me, Charlie and out kids moved back here in the summer and everything has worked well for us. My husband, Charlie, Tad, Jake, and Jeff’s nephew, is a Private Investigator, has his own PI business . Both of my boys are in school, Nicholas Charles Brent and Phillip Joseph Brent are there names. Let me show you a picture”. Cecily pulled out a picture of her boys to show JR.
“One of them is fourteen years old, that’s Nick and the other is ten years old, Phillip, but mostly everyone calls him ‘Little Phillip’ because of his father’s childhood name, he loves it. Also when you‘re mom came to visit me, she showed me the picture of your son AJ and he‘s handsome” she said with a smile on her face.
“So, might I ask, what are you doing here? Did you come back from a doctor’s appointment or have you arrived on time?” asked Cecily touching her stomach. She could see that something just wasn’t right with JR, the man didn’t look healthy. Could he be diagnosed with a disease? Cecily listened it to his answer.

"Oh, a patient advocate, like my mom" JR said with a light smile. His mother had often told him when he was a kid how much she got out of doing that at PVH. His father of course had tried to fill his head with thoughts that since it didnt make billions, things like that weren't worth a Chandler's energy, but yet his mother always seemed to get more satisfaction out of her work than he ever saw from his father.
JR looked over as she pulled out a picture of her sons before complimenting AJ. "Thank you, you have two handsome boys there yourself" He told her.
JR felt the unsettling feeling come up as she asked why he was here. His urge was still to deny everything, but everyone knew he was sick now, so there was no hiding it anymore. "I just finished with a round of chemo and radiation therapy. I have lymphoma"

When Cecily heard that he finished a round of chemo and radiation therapy, and that he had lymphoma, Cecily was stunned and left speechless as he put her hand, near her belly. She knew that looking at JR when she came in the room, something was up with the losing of hair and weight loss but lymphoma? Cancer? Cecily didn’t know what it was like to have cancer or have a disease that could end her life.
“L…lymphoma?” she asked JR. “Wow….I never knew that you had it” she said but sighed. “Sorry, it’s just that when you said you had cancer, it just got to me. I never had cancer th a sickness growing up and I know that it can be tough going through all of this but I know that you can defeat this. When me and your mother were beginning as friends, I saw her go through so much life had in store for her but she was strong and brave” she said and knowing Dixie, Cecily can see her right in JR but also Adam Chandler as well.
“Basically, what im saying is don’t give up and fight this cancer. You have that strength to overcome all the odds that are in your way. You’ve come to the right place here at St. Michaels because I believe that Jeff and others including your family can help you, support you throughout the process. None of this is easy, it will be hard but believe in yourself. Everyday is a chance to go on and live life to the fullest” she said and hoping that what Cecily just spoke got through to JR.
